What to upgrade in my PC? I don't have specified budget but I don't want to break the bank

My specs
I5 3470
R9 280x
8gb ram
120gb ssd, 1tb hdd, 500gb hdd

Any ideas?

I would definitely get another 8gb of RAM for now. The other stuff has new replacements coming out soon where you’ll get more performance at a better price but RAM likely won’t change or upgrade in the next couple of years and 16GB is usually the recommended amount of RAM for gaming.

You won’t see a huge improvement right away like a new CPU or GPU will provide but once those new releases come out you’ll be glad you have 16GB of RAM and won’t have to go upgrade that anytime soon.

CPU: i7 8700K (5.1 GHz OC). AIO: EVGA CLC 280 280mmGPUEVGA XC2 Ultra 2080Ti. PSU: Corsair RM850x 850W 80+ Gold Fully Modular. I would not recommend sinking money into DDR3, especially for someone unsatisfied enough with performance that they're asking about upgrading. In all likelihood, they're gonna be upgrading their platform soon, and buying ddr3 right before that is gonna feel real bad

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

Oh is he using DDR3? I thought he had something like 8GB DDR4 2400 or something similar and I figured DDR5 isn’t coming out in the near future so another 8GB of the same RAM would be good.

But if he is using DDR3 I take back that recommendation.

Buy second hand, don't buy new.

As for the upgrade how much money you willing to spend?

Sell the CPU + Mobo + Memory, you can get like $70.

Buy the cheapest ryzen set you can, a new Athlon 3000g / used Ryzen 1200 ($50) + Cheap mb ($50) + 8gb memory ($30).

This will set you up for a longer upgrade path.

Along the way you can upgrade the CPU and Memory.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

Is it really a good idea to get a new CPU or GPY right now though if Zen 3 and Ampere are around the corner?

Personally I would hate to buy like a 1650 Ti only for a cheaper, better, GPU at the same or lower price is coming out in under a year. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well these things are going to be expensive? (for me maybe bc I don't have regular income) and I'm not very big gamer, I'm playing mostly older games (although I looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077)

The thing is I don't want to spend too much many on PC because next year I'm making driver's license

You could always do what I did and just put a little bit of money aside each month. Even if it’s only like $20, after a year you’d have $240 which is enough to buy a CPU & some RAM or a decent GPU, or a PSU & Motherboard. I did that with my build and I put $120 aside each month and after 12 months I bought a 2080 Ti when normally I could never afford one all at once.
