i am gonna make a system for a friend. it'll have ubuntu 20.04 umix os.

i have a spare gpu, so that is not included in the budget, nor are keyboard/mouse. i was thinking of going amd, but i looked and their equivalent of a 6core lacks  an igpu which is a must for the p106 to work. the system will be used for gaming. anything i should change?

Ryzen is a better choice. You don't need to spend that much on a PSU, 550w is enough. You have more than enough budget to get something other than a P106. They're not even that exceptional of a card.

well please recommend an amd with igpu. and a board that is for sure ubuntu compatable. my own pc gave me issues getting first ubuntu setup, so wanna be sure theres no issue this time. 6cores/12 threads is ideal. bear in mind i've never worked with an amd before, so i will not know even what board goes to what.

Board requirements: pci slot, 16 minimum lanes on cpu +igpu, onboard wifi, sata ports, m.2 is unimportant. hdmi port, lots of usb ports.

and my friend may change gpus down the line so will 550 watt be enough if he does?

Like I said, you'd still have lots of budget to get a better video card. That'd be my recommendation.

I have no idea what would work with Ubuntu.

i attempted an sli on linux with 2 p104's after upfrading from a p106. it was then i learned sli doesn't work via wine or proton so sli was useless. i want to throw one of the extra cards in to this system. also since i have 3 makes no sense to buy another card. none are broked.

umm... you do know that only way to run a p104 and or 6 is with an igpu. those cards have no outputs. on linux, the card gets the latest drivers without issue. p104 in my system runs driver 440 on ubuntu 20.04. even played rtx quske at 10fps

well then get something like gt 710 for 10 dollars used and use that as display since that ryzen is much better than intel has to offer at this price point
