Correct me if i'm wrong, but can't the thermal paste act as an insulator if applied too generously? (I'd hate to see those things die :( ) Other than that sweet build man!  :D

The above people are correct. That is waaaay too much thermal paste :o. Just a warning, I wouldn't want your GPUs to die

1st: too much thermal past?
2nd: why not choose 900D as a case?

nice setup you bastard

Real programmers don't document, if it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.
I've learned that something constructive comes from every defeat.

2nd: why not choose 900D as a case?

Because if you can (and are willing to) afford Caselabs there

is no reason to go Corsair? :D

As per EK instructions and everyone's general knowledge, GPUs do need that much thermal goop. This is because when you apply a block to a GPU the compound doesn't spread thus more is needed. You can even watch Linus's video on installing a waterblock on a GPU he applies more than he would on a CPU and spreads it. Something you wouldn't find when applying to a CPU. I've been installing GPU waterblocks for years now, and haven't had a single card die. I think I would know what I'm doing at this point.. ;)

I had the 900D for about a week or two. I cant say i liked it. It's general construction is horrible. Had way too many QC issues, went through 3 cases before I found one that didn't have any warping. I don't know what people like Corsiar cases, they just take a steel frame, put plastic around the outside then plate it with a thin aluminum sheet and call it a "premium" case. That's not what premium is, and I wouldn't pay 350 for a steel box with plastic and a thin sheet of aluminum. Caselabs, does it right, It is 100% Aluminum construction. There Built Quality and sheer amount of thought they put into each case is amazing. Every case they make is truly up to the customers liking. Did this case cost more than the 900D? yes. Was it worth it? Hell yes. Once you go Caselabs, you will never go back to those Bigger companies.

Agreed. It's not that I think they make particularly bad cases

or anything, I just don't think they're anything truly special in

today's market (unlike, say, the 800D when it came out,

which was something that hadn't really been done before IIRC).

But nowadays, there are actually quite a few viable choices

when you're in the market for a new case (Corsair being one

of them, but by far not the only one).

As for the 900D, sure it is a bit unique for what it can do at

that pricepoint, but a lot of compromises had to be made to

get its price there.

To be perfectly honest, to me the 900D doesn't really make

sense when I really think about it. If you have the finances to

actually fill it with radiators and components and stuff, you're

going to be spending an insane amount of money anyway,

so at that point you might as well just go for a Caselabs or a

LittleDevil, another couple of hundred bucks really don't matter

too much at that point (and if they do, you're probably spending

more money than you can actually afford to anyway and

should be re-evaluating your budget).

If you don't fill it up with equipment, then there are better

alternatives IMHO (the Enthoo Primo for example, at least IMHO),

because if you don't fill it up you really don't need to have such

a big case (plus it just looks wrong to leave such a big box

half-empty).

Don't get me wrong, if somebody has a 900D and is happy with it,

more power to them, just my personal point of view on the subject.

Aside from the point made above, I could just never really go for a

900D simply because I'm a total sucker for build quality, and from

everything I've heard and read, it doesn't really shine in that department.

@WildTurtle Can this support 2 480mm rads?  I don't know much about caselabs, but I'm really digging this case, while I love my 900D, it's a bit annoying at times and I've always liked cases like this with horizontal motherboard trays.  It's like a bigger version of an ITX! I love it!

I wanna go and research a bit and read about them some more, maybe I'll ditch my 900D for one.  I love the fact I could make it really "open" with things being horizontal.

If you wanted to It can support a maximum of 3 360 and 1 240. There is an option for dual 360 mounts in the roof. Head over to Caselabs website and configure a case for yourself. The options they have are endless ;)

Edit: They even have custom options for what you want your case to look like in terms of colors, window options, Extended tops, Ventilation types, it goes on and on. If you wanted something like your 900D check out the Magnum SMA8, although that case is in the 500+ range. I have one and I'm loving it :D Was 600 after all the options and add-on, but totally worth every cent. The Mercury S8 was around 450 after everything was said and done :)

Hmm.. It can fit 2 360mm monstas in the top right? With that dual 360 rad top?    I wonder how 2 monsta 360's would compare to my 2 480 60mm's

Yes 2 360 Monstas in the top, a 360 monsta on the side, and you could squeeze a 240 monsta in the font. I went for the window/360 drop in mount on the top just because Its only 2 GPUs and CPU. One you try a Caselabs case you will not want to go back to your previous case.

Personally, I like the look of the SMA8, its kind of like the 900D except with better options and build quality.

I'll look into that too, TYSM for the replies. If I was to go for the s8, I'd have to buy new rads and figure out a clever way to mount my res.    Idk how easy it'd be to sell radiators on here though or ebay.  Ty once again :)

If you get the front window, you could mount the res right there, It would look pretty sweet, just an idea :)

Dude no matter what EK says, that is a LOT of thermal paste. You should really consider taking the block off and reapplying it.

I've applied it like this on other 780s, they all been fine.

EDIT: I'll take the block off and see how the spread was like. If it is fine ill just keep it like that.

I was thinking that actually, it'd look sweet.   My cpu does get a bit hot with my OC, it hits ~66 under prime95 at 4.8 ghz 1.45v and ~70-73 at 5ghz 1.55v with my 2 480 rads. Do you think 2 monsta 360's could keep a lid on it's temps?  I enjoy heavily OC'ing and benchmarking quite a bit, it's fun seeing what I can change to better my score.

I'm hoping to get the 3970x from the store, in hopes it'll OC better than my 3930k does, the amount of voltage it needs to reach 5ghz is unacceptable for me and I really want a chip that can do 5ghz 24/7 without degradation. (It's not very important, it's just something I'd really like :D) And to my understanding, extreme editions are better quality chips in the first place, so should OC easier. (In theory)

running 1.55V to get 5.0ghz on a 2011 chip seems a little much. Mine does 4.9 @ 1.4V. The highest I've gotten it is 5.4ghz @ 1.52V and I didn't see a point in running it that high. 2 360 Monstas will be more than enough to cool a 2011 chip.

Like I said it's a terrible overclocker, it won't even boot into windows without 1.525 at 5ghz, :/  anything under 1.55 won't last more than a couple mins on prime95 :(

I know :(   It was stable 5 at 1.54 for like.. 30 hours of benchmarking+ prime95, but now it needs like 1.565, chip degradation OP. lolol.    I don't wanna push it anymore that high seeing how fast it degraded, makes me nervous even with intel's tuning plan.  My plan was to buy the 3970x off the forums, sell my 3930k+ tuning plan on ebay / the forums for like 350-400$ and hope for the best.

Or I can just wait like 2 years for 5770k/6770k and just upgrade then.   I honestly don't really use my CPU to it's potential much.  The most intensive thing I do everyday is play bf4 @ 1440p lol.

My original plan when I built it was to learn to use sony vegas/ after effects/ premiere etc. But I had no idea where to even start to learn, so I lost interest :/
