RGBisKey

Hi there, I was wondering what are some easy and free ways to completely wipe an SSD?

use the secure erase command. You can do it with hdparm in linux

I need something for Windows. I'm just looking to clone one SSD to another and then wipe the drive I cloned

Is this a wipe to reuse or a wipe to sell it?

why not boot from a linux live disk and do in there?

In disk manager you can format the drive and erase everything.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Could you possibly give me a step by step? Or a link to one?

Attach the ssd to your computer

Open disk management on windows

right click on the drive

click format

follow the onscreen steps

Edit: like others have said, this is only if you’re reusing the drive, not selling it or giving to someone else

One thing to note is that unless you do a full wipe, the data is still on the drive, its just removed from the filesystem. You can still recover the data pretty easily.

The secure earse is the way to go if you care about the data being hard to recover.
