Greetings fellow gamers and enthusiasts 🤙.

I built this gaming rig 7 years ago, and since then (besides ☝️  PSU upgrade), I’ve only ever upgraded the GPU.

Meet, my baby, Little boy blue:

MB: MSI Z77-G45a

RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600 in XMP

PSU: Corsair CX-750M

SSD: 2x 250GB Samsung 850 EVO

SSHD: 500GB Seagate Momentus

CPU: i7 3770k (OC @ 4.3ghz)

GPUs (chronologically):

-9800 GTX

-710 GT

-GTX 750ti

-GTX 1650ti

-GTX 1660 Super (Current)

-RTX 2060 Super (OTW)

———————————————

I’ve been told by friends for a couple years now that I should be upgrading the entire rig.. they laugh  a bit at my core count, but I’m still laughing at their empty wallets haha 🤷‍♂️.

I mean, I’ve yet to own a title that I couldn’t play smoothly (At least 60 FPS) at 1080p; with the worst case scenario so far being me upgrading my GPU. Although I know soon I might run out of options and be forced to build anew, but for now, I’m gaming on 🤘.

I’m interested to hear your opinions and feedback; but please, don’t bash my aging wonder 😋.

(Note: These pics were taken before the PSU upgrade, and it seems Speccy didn’t get the memory correct on my 1660 Super 🤷‍♂️.)

Wait, what happened here? Isn't the 710 GT a downgrade to your 9800 GTX? Did it die and you didn't have the cash to buy a better one at the time?

What caused you to go through so many upgrades in the last year? Especially such relatively minor upgrades.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yup, it wasn’t the GPU exactly, just the single fan it had cut out on me and it was getting Way too hot. (thermals were just awful back then)

I keep coming across killer deals on eBay lately, where selling my older GPU and upgrading to the new actually profited me 😁.
Which made it 100% worth my while haha.

1660Ti and 2060 are the same card but the 2060 is more expensive because of meme tracing godrays effect. That's all.

The pink mat looks nice.

Yeah, I suppose it mostly is, although the 1660 Super has 6GB of memory whereas the 2060 Super has 8GB. It doesn’t sound like much, but that extra 2GB can make or break some titles, especially those with DSR.

Thnx for the info tho 😊.

Nice build. Haha, in the time you've had that system I think I've had 3. Most of which cost me next to nothing to build; all about approach.

At the rate you're going though, might as well hold off until AM5/Intel's next gen CPUs. They're supposed to be monsters.

For 1080p60, it doesn't take much, so that chip should easily last you.

For a cheap, old case that's aged rather gracefully. Unless you've replaced it at some point 🤔

Also why do I see 1280x800 ;)

Haha I got that case on eBay for a steal, kept it pristine since.

The mesh vent covers have all been replaced over the years.

My son “borrowed” my 27” Asus about a year ago lol, I’ve been hooked up to mr. blurry since 🤦‍♂️.

Sweet! I had a build with an i5-3450 and a 1GB GTX 650Ti that I got in 2013. Decided to let her go this year, for better efficiency with BOINC and Folding. That Ivy Bridge chip scaled beautifully, from having 8GB RAM and a 650Ti to 16GB and a 1060, and it still didn't bottleneck in any of my games. :) It didn't even have a case fan!(Someone else assembled it for me :P)

Desktop 1 : Ryzen 5 3600 (O/C to 4Ghz all-core) | Gigabyte B450M-DS3H | 24GB DDR4-2400 Crucial(O/C to 2667) | GALAX RTX 2060 6GB | CoolerMaster MWE 650 Gold

Desktop 2 : i5 10400 | 32GB DDR4-3200(@ 2667Mhz) |  EVGA GTX 1070 SC 8 GB | Corsair CV450M

Laptop : ASUS ROG Strix G17 : i7-10750H, 16GB RAM, GTX 1660Ti 6GB(90W), 1TB NVMe SSD

Yoga 3 14 - i7-5500U, 8GB RAM, GeForce GT 940M, 256GB SSD
