USB-C 10-GiG-E Ethernet Adapter

AquaVixen

As the title says I'm looking for a USB-C 10-GiG-E Ethernet Adapter for a future build. Does anyone know of any such adapter that exists? I'm looking for a USB one, NOT a thunderbolt one.

There are some that go to 2.5/5 Gbps but not 10...from what i understand about the interconnects, USB-C does not support 10 gig lan because of the poor latency.  You need to go to TB3 for that.

It should be possible. There is both a 20 Gbps and 10 Gbps standard for USB 3.2 Gen2. Even the 10 Gbps standard should be "Enough" to run 10 Gigabit Ethernet.. which is also 10 Gbps. At least logically that should work? 10 Gbps = 10 Gbps.

its also about power and someone making a chip that will work over USB

I was planning to use this in a ITX build that does not have a spare PCIE port. The PCIE port in the planned build would be using a raid card in there. I guess I can't have everything I want in technology just yet. :(

So then no one has created a chip that can do what I asked for yet? Okay. So that's the answer then.

Well that is a very simplistic arguement. Take into account an interface chip and latency. With overhead, 10 gig ethernet would be more like 6Gbps, hency there are 2.5/5 gbps adapters.

many boards now should have 2.5 or 5gb built in

I'm hesitant to start driving this topic into a discussion about motherboards because this is the wrong section of the forums for that. I think my original question was answered already here.

I was hoping to build a small server out of a AMD AM4 B550-based Mini-ITX build, mainly because the new 4000 series APU's will feature 8 cores and 16 threads at < 100W. Which is very very appealing to me. I'll be replacing an ancient Dual-Quad-I7-Xeon-LGA-1366 server. I was wanting to use a hardware raid card in the main PCI-Express slot and then try to find some sort of way to also get 10 Gigabit Ethernet in the same system. I just think it's not possible with today's technology. Not yet. I'm probably going to have to give up and just go with a full ATX B550 / X570 build instead to get what I want, sadly.

Now that I'm done with dinner I can look into this. Wow, it has everything, even 10 Gigabit onboard and X570 chipset for Zen2 / Zen3. Looks like X570D4I-2T will do everything I want. ❤️ Nice find!

For anyone else looking at this thread and wanting to see what I was looking at, here it is: https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=X570D4I-2T#Specifications
