Network Troubleshooting - WiFi & Ethernet

Would appreciate any help you can provide me. I know that WiFi extenders are not great, but sort of working with what is available: 

 

So, first a wifi extender was hooked up in our sanctuary a few months ago, unfortunately, with some brick walls the wifi wouldn't connect. Over the past month he then ran an ethernet cable from the wifi extender to our router. However, whenever it is plugged in to the router I don't get internet on my computer. At first, it required a log-in to NetGear (the wifi extender). However, now he has switched extenders (he added another one to do the whole sanctuary and decided just to switch them out so the new one is connected to the router via the ethernet cable and the old one is connected to that wifi extender via wifi). Now, it seems to just stop all internet flow, I don't even get a sign-on. Oh, also, there is still no internet even in the sanctuary. When I try to connect with my computer or tablet to the extender it says connected without internet.

Please sketch a layout of this setup including the make/model of each device and the type of cable connecting them.
