Chromax NH-D15, Trident Z RGB, and Corsair 460X Clearance Issues

Go to solution Solved by tep,

Pull-pull on a D15 will create a buzzing noise due to turbulence. Most cost effective is to just use it with a single middle fan.

Hi I wanted to get some suggestions from the LTT community on how I could tackle the problem of making more room to allow me to place the tempered glass panel back on my Corsair Crystal 460X case in the most cost/performance effective manner. I do not mind getting case suggestions as I already have a few in mind that may have the clearance I need (Lian-Li Dynamic O11). I just didn't want to go on an endless shopping spree only to return the cases or avoid having to return my Trident Z RGB 3200 MHz RAM kits. I currently have my RAM in an A2/B2 configuration to get the maximum performance from my ASUS X470 F-Gaming Motherboard. Currently I appear to be needing roughly 2 to 3 centimetres of case clearance to allow me to fully close off my case with the glass side panel. Typically, how much clearance does my memory need from the fan so as to not cause hardware issues? Is Push-Pull out of the question in my case? There appears to be sufficient room on the rear for Pull Pull?

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read my post.

Will it create a significant decrease in the amount of cooling if I remove the front Push fan? Or do you think it would minuscule enough to ignore the small drop in cooling performance? I do have 3 front facing fans running at approx 1300 RPM towards the CPU cooler and graphics card.

My original post is not answered, but I will have to shop around for a larger CPU clearance case. I tried using my older G. Skill DDR4 RAM with the same timings only to have them not post (bad RAM) with slightly better clearance than my Trident Z RGB RAM, but it was quite the tight fit with the glass panel (some obvious pushback so I removed it again). Honestly, at this point it's hard to gauge which cases truly have the right amount of clearance for my setup especially when Noctua claims that my current case (Corsair 460X Crystal) has the clearance for it. There are more factors than just case clearance such as motherboard layout, ram height, and width as from pictures, it always hard to determine and seems that most or all cases share the same amount of space regardless of mid-tower and full-tower variants. I can't judge the size without seeing these cases in person. Best bet is probably a Lian-Li O11-D XL.

Using a measuring tape from the bare metal of the case it seems I need approximately 8 inches (203.2 millimetres) total clearance from bare metal of the case to towards a little past the glass panel and then 7.5 inches (190.5 millimetres) respectively from motherboard to height of the Noctua front-facing fan over the RAM.
