CPU bottleneck

Hey guys! so I recently bought the XFX RX580 and it arrived yesterday and its good so far no issues at all

However my CPU is on 100% usage most of the time  my mobo is GA-H110M-S2H and my CPU is i5-7400

On a low budget too. what CPU do I need to get? I thought the bottleneck wont be that much but its more than I expected

Its not a matter of games really. though I downloaded fortnite to test (I had a 1050 before and I had to play on low to play without any lags) and I thought I could play on max settings without any issues but its freezes every time it needs to load something new. and still sometimes when I move it kind of freezes too. right now im in paladins as well in the menu and my GPU is on 45-50% which is okay I think and my CPU is 70-95% and again thats in the menu and fortnite is a heavier game

It's normal for newer games to 100% a quad core. Budget upgrade would be to ryzen but I don't know what your budget is. Firstly tho is the game on an ssd? and how much ram do you have? How much ram is used when playing games? Got anything open in the background?

32GB ram and its not on my SSD since I only have 240GB I cant install big games on it and my budget is probably around 100-120$

Is performance bad? Some games are just CPU limited no matter what you do, and you'd probably be looking at a spending at least a few hundred USD to get a noticeable improvement over your current setup.

i5 7400 only has 4c/4t. may new games use more than 4 cores and 8 threads but your cpu only has 4 threads meaning that your cpu is bottleneck for newer games.

the cheapest route you could go is get a 3300x (basically i7 7700k) which has 4 cores and 8 threads. that route will cost you little over 200 USD. i would wait for 4 months for new ryzen cpus to come out

In the future as your budget doesn't allow for a new one that is worth it. Best you can do now is lock your fps to 60 or higher (see what doesn't make the game stutter) and lower your settings to relieve the cpu a bit.

depends if the performance is poor or not. if its decent i would wait for new ryzen cpus. otherwise i would get 3300x, b450 board and 2x8gb 3200mhz (atleast) ram.

you could find used i7 7700 if you can. but your motherboard doesnt allow overclocking so going for better cpu with that motherboard is not a good idea. used i7 7700 or new ryzen 3 3300x, motherboard and ram

I also advice against a i7 6700 or 7700 as prices for those just aren't great and when those are next (new consoles run 8c/16t cpu's so probably in the nearer future) you are stuck on the platform. A 3300x + b450 board (or b550 preferably when those launch in a couple weeks) would be a better choice as you have plenty of upgrade options for the future then.

Pretty much what everyone already recommended a 3300x and b450 board. Preferably a msi tomahawk max as those are confirmed to get ryzen 4000 support (or any of the msi max series). Do ask again when you are about to buy as b550 boards are launching this month so the b450 ones will be replaced. That and amd is doing a ryzen 3000 refresh in sepetember. So if you buy around that time make sure to ask again so we can provide you with the best options.

Okay! the b450 regardless of the of the b550 coming out is already way out of my price point (hopefully the prices will drop when they do come out though) I wont be able to upgrade after that too. I just want something that will be good with my RX580 and I wont have to upgrade ever again  also my case is antec X1-T incase you need to know

That's why I recommend saving up for now as nothing in your current budget will do the trick.
