Posted June 10, 2020 Hello my good friends of LTT forums! I have a similar topic to a previous post in the "CPU/Motherboard/RAM" but I would like to ask your opinions as a matter of performance. I have a new Zephyrus laptop with 8GB of soldered DDR4 3200. It did come with another 8GB stick, but to be short I am planning to use this for some pretty hefty work. I am considering replacing the 8GB stick with a 16GB stick, but I'm concerned that I will take a performance hit even before I saturate the RAM to 16GB if I have a total of 24GB. I'm interested if anyone has an opinion on whether to keep the 16GB total or upgrade to 24GB. Cheers!
 Posted June 10, 2020 If you add 16gb, they will work in dual channel for 16gb total, once you surpass 16gb in dual channel, the excess 8gb, when in use will be in single channel. Posted June 10, 2020 Mismatched RAM can cause some weird shenanigans, specifically because the first 8 GB of the 16 GB stick will be dual channel, while the second 8 GB will be single channel. It can also cause some performance loss, especially when accessing data from the single and dual channel parts at the same time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Desktop: Intel Core i7-11700K | Noctua NH-D15S chromax.black | ASUS ROG Strix Z590-E Gaming WiFi | 32 GB G.SKILL TridentZ 3200 MHz | ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3080 | 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD | 2TB WD Blue M.2 SATA SSD | Seasonic Focus GX-850 | Fractal Design Meshify C | Windows 10 Pro Laptop: HP Omen 15 | AMD Ryzen 7 5800H | 16 GB 3200 MHz | Nvidia RTX 3060 | 1 TB WD Black PCIe 3.0 SSD | 512 GB Micron PCIe 3.0 SSD | Windows
 Posted June 10, 2020 Author Thank you; do you know if there will be performance issues before 16GB is saturated?
