I7 7700k Users Question

I know the I7 7700k tends to have heat issues, I have had mine for years and purchased a new AIO 3 fan Thermaltake Floe Riing 360 cooler. My idle temp is around 33 and gaming is 55 to 65. When running the OCCT stress test, or any test that really heats up the CPU I get temps around 90 to 95. Normal stress tests are around 70. 

I figured switching from a hyper 212 evo to a 3 fan AIO would significantly decrease my temps. It seemed to drop them like 10 degrees but not significantly.

 

I have the CPU overclocked to 1.275 volts at 4.7ghz. 

 

Does anyone have similar temps when running the stress tests that are made to heat up the CPU? Is this normal, or should I be lowering my voltage? 

 

I know delidding will help a lot but I'm nervous to tackle that.

Yeah delidding is going to make the biggest difference, I did so with my i7-6700k and i7-8700k dropped 10 degrees C under load. Intel was putting shitty paste under the IHS, only changed after 9th gen.

I think the 7700K would drop an easy 10c? Maybe more maybe less depending on the paste vs LM ......

 

Mine dropped closer to 15c. I am in fact using IC diamond. (don't bash me please!) But the de-lid will help significantly. 

 

At 5ghz, that 212 won't handle it. I'd upgrade the cooler. 

NH-D15 does what smaller AIO can accomplish in most cases. If you have the case space, add a third fan

I mean there are a few variables, I can't remember exactly with my 6700k but my 8700k dropped closer to 15 degrees, and I even OC'd it further in it's current setup. But at the very least I would expect to see a 10 degrees C difference, if not more. I used Thermal Grizzlies liquid metal so that may have helped even more if their marketing is to be believed haha.

Just recently did a de-lid of my 7700K. I created a bespoke replacement for the TIM... Rolled out some pure Indium to approx. 0.25mm thick. Coated each side with my own "galinstan" liquid metal mix, but only a very very thin application, just enough to wet the surfaces. Moulded the Indium around the CPU die - pushing the slight overhang of 2mm around all sides with plastic opening tool (guitar pick style), to prevent it moving about during mounting. Then mounted the IHS using only the socket mechanism (for now, bonding it is messy). Water cooled with an el-cheapo water block with no name, and a 240mm rad (also el-cheapo, but copper).

Used to hit 95C+ under load as the OP reports. Now? Using PowerMAX in AVX mode, it just about hits 78C max. Oh and that's OC to 4.8Ghz on all cores (AVX and SSE). Any other tasks rarely break 70C.

If you're only de-lidding once, I can recommend those super cheap de-lid tools ($5). Very worthwhile on a 7700K.
