Re-purposing PreBuilt PSU w/ 12 & 4 pin power

I've been trying to put together a new AMD system but have been running into some issues with troubleshooting.  I am not sure if the problem is with the CPU, the motherboard, or the PSU.  I figured I could use the power supply from an Asus desktop purchased at Best Buy a few years ago to see if my problem is my power supply.  After removing it from that system I discovered that instead of providing 12 pin and 8 (4+4) pin power to the motherboard it only provides 12 + 4.  Aside from the 12 & 4 cables their are some SATA and molex, but no PCIE cables.  Am I right in thinking this PSU is useless in any system other than the one it came with?  Since the motherboard in the system I am building has 12 & 8 pin connections, I can't test it with the Asus PSU?  Or would it be ab;e to post with only one 4 pin connection?

I've ordered an 80+ Thermaltake PSU but it is going to take about 2 weeks to arrive.  I really miss the days when Amazon was striving to deliver most Prime orders in 1 day.  Though, so many PSUs seem to be back-ordered at the moment.  Best Buy has a 450 W 80+ Insignia brand PSU in stock.  I had no idea Best Buy had house brand PSUs.  Does anyone know if they are any good?

Let me guess, you wanted to make a smart choice so you picket the cheapest Thermaltake Smart 80+ psu? Yes, Insignia is a great door stopper. Why not buy a fake 85+ bomb psu from aliexpress at this point?

I've never ordered anything from Ali Express, but somehow I doubt I'd get a PSU from them faster than from Amazon.  I imagine that would be particularly true when trying to import a bomb.  Wouldn't that require a special import license?  But thank you for the advice.
