Great budget build! Just a few comments I want to make:

1. Make sure the BIOS on the Asrock motherboard is updated and supports 9th gen intels. If not, you may need to downgrade to an 8th gen intel. I think it's better to be safe than sorry, so probably a good idea to downgrade to an 8th gen intel CPU.

2. Buy at least 1 additional fan for your case to prevent excess heat accumulation. At the least have one fan. 2 fans are even better, but considering your budget, please please please have at least one fan in your case as an exhaust fan near the PCIE slots, and if possible, another exhaust fan.

3. Is there any specific reason you are going intel? Usually, Ryzen is preferred for budget builds because they are cheaper, provide great performance, and some even come built in with great integrated graphics. Any specific reason you are going intel for a budget build? I would suggest you go Ryzen 3 CPU for this build, because ryzen is usually better for budget builds.

Thats it! Just try to downgrade to an 8th gen i3, get at least 1 additional case fan, and consider getting a ryzen 3 for this build

Per ASROCK website board supports 9th gen ...i will get cheap 8th gen if bios update is needed only if bios doesn't support bios update via usb. has a boost up to 4.2 mhz from 3.6 mhz, has a tdp of 65w, is quad core, and only cost me 75 dollars plus tax....the case comes with one intake and one exhaust fan out of box...and I am building another pc later when I have MORE disposable cash, and prices go back to reasonable for higher end hardware...

Just skip that i3 and get a Ryzen 3 3200g.

Pair it with a decent b450 Mobo.

Skip the GPU.

Not a bad build.

Things I'd change:

  • Drop the 1TB HDD and 120GB SSD, replace with a 1TB SSD; it's usually right around the same price +/- $10
  • I'd get a used RX570 instead of that RX550; that card isn't worth the money. Should be had for around $100
  • Try and get a better PSU

  • His PC won't be producing that much heat. You don't need that many fans. My PC only has 2 fans, and has a 7600k and GTX 980
  • The integrated graphics aren't that great; this is better

Doesn't make a ton of sense, he'd be getting significantly worse performance for not that much savings.

The rx550 is on par with the Vega 11 on the 3400g. Slightly better than the Vega 8 on 3200g. I wouldn't really recommend that rx550 for his use case. Also, upgrades wise, Ryzen is better than those intels.

@keith47111 you can do a  lot better than that for $500. Full SSD, RX 580, and a much better PSU.

Only 8gb RAM but you can pop in another stick at some point.

I would cancel some orders or return while you can. At least ditch the RX 550 for a 570... The 550 wasn't a good card when it came out and it certainly isn't a good card now. Quite the opposite for the 570.

i will consider it....not really using it for AAA games though....mostly for home office, and light esports and some picture editing, and a VERY rare youtube video...nothing really spectacular...but thank you...if I get another stimulous check I may set up one for gaming at AAA using AMD...

I will likely be using an AMD build for AAA gaming, and will be using all the suggested builds and criticism of parts, etc to choose what to purchase for the AMD box...this is truly for OFFICE, editing pics, youtube stuff...the other AMD build will be for Gaming ONLY....
