Help: Microphone is picking up vibrations from desk

Recently purchased a microphone arm for my desk. It's a Samson MBA28. It's holding a Shure SM58 microphone. However when typing with a mechanical keyboard, or when lifting the mouse and putting it down again while gaming, the mic is picking up the vibrations from the desk. Is this normal? Maybe I need some kind of dampener placed somewhere?

You can use some post-processing software like RTX Voice to get rid of background noise. If you don't have an RTX card, here's a tutorial on how to do it.

Will this take some processing power out of my graphics card? Lets say I'm streaming and gaming for example, will the RTX voice tax the performance of any of those activities?

Yes but it shouldn’t be enough to cause a noticeable impact

You'd need a shock mount for the microphone, and also I'd recommend using the keyboard on a large cloth-type mouse pad + adding o-rings to the keycaps.

I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but I thought that a dynamic mic such as the SM58 would not require a shock mount? I thought that was for condensers only.

 

As an additional note I've tried adding some foam and different types of cloth, where the mic arm mounts, and it didn't bring the noise down at all sadly.

What you need is a shock mount, if you have a 3D printer just print this, if like most of us you don't have one purchase the Shure A55M, Dynamic mics shouldn't benefit much from a shock mount as they usually have low handling noise for live use but if yours has issues, shock mount it is.

Shock mounts are made to absorb shock - the sounds from moving the boom arm, vibrations from the surrounding and sometimes even hitting the microphone itself.

True, it doesn't affect the SM58 as much, but it can help and it seems you'd profit from it.

I just found this thread with a very similar problem i understand that this is an old thread but this is all i could find i have the same boom arm but the Beringher ba 85A which is basically the ripoff sm58. all im woried about it the sound it pick up when either i move the arm or accidentally hit the desk/ chair hits desk and the mic picks up all of that now i do have this running into a mixer then back into the pc. I do have a 3d printer and an nvidia card so i will try to print that out and try that software but if there is anything elese help would be great!

Anyway... condenser microphones are... pretty much very influenceable from surrounding noise.
