Just encrypt the .pdf in a .rar or .zip or smth and have the decryption key (password) on hand when you need it.

I had a movie (that I definitely legally bought) on my phone and Google automatically backed it up to google photos and they didn't do anything about it, sent the link to a few people when I told the story for laughs but I eventually just deleted it. You'll be fine without encrypting it so long as you're not sharing the link around.
