Hello guys, I recently bought a Ryzen 5 1600 AF alongside a used GTX 780 to update my budget study/light gaming rig from the Ryzen 3200G APU I had before.

Quick specs (more system info at the bottom of the post):

  • Mobo: ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 - BIOS version: P3.70 (https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/B450M-HDV R4.0/index.asp#CPU you can see the 1600AF is supported, at the end of the list)
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 1600AF (YD1600BBAFBOX)
  • RAM: 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws 4 DDR4-2400
  • GPU: Gigabyte GTX 780 Windforce 3GB
  • PSU: Be Quiet! Pure Power 10 600W

Sadly the system just won't boot/post anything no matter what I try, which to this point was:

  • Updated the motherboard (Asrock B450M-HDV R4.0) to the latest BIOS (p3.70) that should support the 1600 AF
  • Used just one RAM stick in both (2) slots
  • Checked all cables: CPU power cable, CPU fan cable, GPU power cable, HDMI connected to GPU
  • Cleared CMOS (jumpers & battery)
  • Returned the 1600AF to the shop and received a new one, still doesn't post :I
  • Tried on a different monitor with a different HDMI cable
  • Checked on BeQuiet site if the PSU is powerful enough for the system (it is, 600W)

The same system runs perfectly using the Athlon 200GE I bought to update the BIOS and it's using the discrete GPU (GTX 780). This isn't my first build (something like the 7th) and I have no idea what's wrong. This should work, right? I'm considering trying to ask the shop if I could switch the AF with a Ryzen 3100, although the 1600 AF really was more interesting for me as I'm studying computer science and always compiling programs.

How old is the PSU and what model is it 

Sorry if it is in that list its kind of hard to read and I might have missed it 

Plus did you try the rig in a different mobo or did you at least try the cpu in a different system?

Do the fans spin and mobo LED lights up when push the start button? Did you unplug and re-connect the front header cables when rebuilding you rig? I might sound stupid. But it could be you plug the front header power switch cables incorrectly. It happened to me.

The PSU is new, it's a be quiet! Pure Power 10, 600W. Sadly I don't have another AM4 system at hand to try it out on but I could try and see if I could try that on a friend's pc...

Oh yes sorry, all the fans spin and the HDD led on the front header lights up sometimes, but there's just no output to the monitor whatsoever. And as I said in the post, I'm using this exact rig with all the same components but with an Athlon 200GE instead of the 1600 AF right now.

Can you maybe try it in a friend's build if possible

I will try that when I can as a last resort, but it will take some time to be able to get to them. Would be nice if I could find out what the problem is another way. Maybe with the beeper thing to find out if the mobo gives an error message?

Note: More recent models have eliminated the beep codes which where replaced by a single memory error pattern. Now only no memory failure conditions generate the beep code, the beep pattern is 1-3-2 (1 beep, then 3 beeps, then 2 beeps). This beep code tells you that the computer encountered a memory problem. The new beep codes emit only memory failure symptoms. Occasionally, reseating the memory modules may fix the beep code errors.


HP branded desktop or workstation PC makes beeps and does not start, a serious hardware issue is likely occurring.

Ok so I managed to get a mobo speaker and I'm getting 5 short beeps. How likely is it tho to get two bad CPUs in a row? 🙄

On a guide on techwire they say that 5 short beeps could also mean a problem with the mobo, other than with the CPU; maybe the mobo doesn't really support this CPU... I'm gonna try putting it in a x570 mobo before contacting the shop again I think.
