I’m seeing positive reviews “10” series chips and I am concerned

There are some pretty positive reviews of the not yet released “10” series CPUs coming out.  I’m concerned about binning tricks.  MSI reported that they got a big pile of CPUs for testing and the difference in performance between the chip types was significant.  There was near 30% gold chips in the 10900 stuff but in the i7 and i5 versions gold chips were nearer zero.  5% and 2% or something like.  Implying good chips were being sent to the 10900 group.  I worry that reviewers are being sent “A” grade chips that do not actually represent what the average chip is going to do.  They may be testing the 2% and 5% edge cases which are going to be a lot better than is actually available.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Since the chips sent to reviews are "engineering" samples, in my eyes, they are likely always binned golden chips that get sent to reviewers to test and report on.

this has always been the case tbh, both "reviewers getting golden samples" and "flagships are better binned than the lower end models"

True.  The percentage of gold vs lead remained about the same though.  One could expect a reasonable chance of being close to the review rather than a near zero chance.  I also don’t know how much of a difference there is between gold and lead in this series.  If it’s not very much it doesn’t matter, but if the difference is large it could turn into a situation where people are paying a lot more money for a significantly poorer product.  It will be interesting to see what actual production stuff does.

Then just look at the stock results and base your decisions on that.
