because my front lawn is not a gathering place for literally millions of people.

It could be if you allowed it, which is basically what any social media platform does.

Using the same logic, when ever any company does anything, any criticism can be knocked down with "well they are a private company, they can do what ever they like" and no one can say anything about it.

What? XD

If Social Media want to be publishers, then they need to be regulated in the same ways that publishers are, ie be directly held accountable and face direct fines for what is on their site, not the user. But currently Social Media and other content sharing sites like Youtube are offered protections from these regulations, but also allows them to do what ever the hell they want with extreme bias.

They don't want to be publishers. What are you even talking about?

So sure, if they they are not going to be treated as a public forum, then they need to be treated as a publisher.

No, that should just be treated as a private forum, which is what they are. It's also what LTTF is, which is why the moderators can remove whatever they want.

In the current sense, yes. But I'm saying they Should be treated like a public park.

I'm fully aware of how they work currently which is the part I disagree with

I don't - I fully support their right to dictate how their own private platform is run. I sure as hell don't think the government should be the ones that are saying what is and isn't allowed (beyond what is blatantly illegal, anyway).

As said, that's because you choose not to let people gather on your front lawn. If you owned a large property, you could certainly let dozens or hundreds of people gather, if you wanted.

That's pretty poor logic right there.

For starters, yes, a company can do whatever the hell they want, criticism aside (as long as it's legal).

However, you're also free to not support said company. You can tell that company you think they should change practices. They don't have to listen to you. But if enough people tell them, they will listen.

So sure, if they they are not going to be treated as a public forum, then they need to be treated as a publisher. Because there is very clear and extreme bias's that exist on these platforms. Using the example i had before, TikTok Moderators were told to suppress ugly people's videos, twitter and tumblr have very obvious political bias'. So either they need to moderate equally based on the content, not context, or their protections need to be removed and be held accountable for anything and everything they are effectively publishing/curating

TikTok is a Chinese company - so if they were forced to follow any laws, it would be Chinese laws, not American (or European) ones.

I don't disagree that TikTok's moderators suppressing "ugly people" is bad. However, that would actually be illegal (discrimination) if they were an American company (which they aren't).

Fundamentally, there's no difference between TikTok, Facebook, and LinusTechTips Forums.

Unless you think LTT forums should also have to allow people to discuss whatever they wanted with little to no restrictions?

Take the recent AMD controversy about zen 3 that people got all up in arms about. people can't be upset at AMD because they are just a private company, so they can do what ever they like with their own products.

People definitely can be upset at AMD, but they can't force AMD to change anything they're doing, because... AMD IS a private company and CAN do whatever they like with their own products.
