upgrading to rtx

firstly its my first time on this forum so i hope im doing this in the right section.. 

 

my current pc..

case nzxt h440

i7 7700k oc 5ghz

 palit gtx 1080 super jetstream oc

16gb corsair vengeance ram 3200

mobo gigabyte ga-k270 k3

corsair 120 aio

650w psu

plus hdd and a few ssd

 

im using a 1080 monitor as my main with a 144hz refresh rate 

 

 

i bought this as a pre build and then upgraded the ram for 8gb to 16gb and the gpu from a 1060 to a 1080 and this amounts to all the work ive done on a pc,

i want to get a rtx 2070 super or even a 2080, would it be worth upgrading anything else at the same time?

I would highly suggest waiting for Ampere/RDNA2 to launch and getting a new card then if you really feel like you need an upgrade from the 1080.

While the 2070S and 2080 are faster, they're definitely not worth full price as it's not that massive on an improvement (the 2070S performs similarly to a 1080Ti, and the 2080 is a couple % faster than that).

The 2070 isn't really a worthwhile upgrade. the 2080 would be bottlenecked by the CPU. No need to upgrade at this time, wait for some new releases.

Then get a Zen 3 CPU (Ryzen 4000 series) and an RTX 3000 series card or the "BIG NAVI" from AMD.

How do you know that when he didn't mention any game/monitor/target framerate?

 

Agree with the rest, but without any information on what resolution and framerate he wants to play at, there's no way to tell if the 7700k would be an issue or not.

Education, experince and training.

 

4C 8T i7/i3 CPU-s simply bottleneck high end cards (those made for 4K), and even some mid-range cards (1440p cards) in more (modern) games than not, especially noticable on 1440p or lower. That is a fact. Framerate doesn't matter, it's bad pairing and it's getting worse day by day.

ive edited my post with my main monitor specs, im not sure what fps i get atm but im guessing around 100fps in like mordern warfare multiplayer with most settings cranked
