Headset upgrade

Yeah, no, it's not.

Humans hear binaural stereo and can use spectral pinnae cues as well as the minute differences in time between a sound source hitting each ear to localise that audio. Virtualised surround sound emulates that process quite well and can enhance a listening experience greatly given the source material supports the format. Also, telling someone to go 'search up' the difference between open backed and closed back headphones isn't all that helpful, instead you could try directing them to the FAQ in the Audio subforum which iirc contains all that information.

OP, almost every surround sound headset out there is really just a stereo headset, the reason you don't notice a difference in movies is likely because the file you're viewing only contains stereo audio and the fancy software can't magically create more channels to serve you. Yes, high end headphones will sound better than anything marketed as a gaming headset but you will miss out on the mic functionality. Personally the ATH M40X are my favourite reasonably priced circumaural headphones and since I have studio mics the lack of mic on the headphones really doesn't bother me. I am sure there are other better options available for less money but I just don't know what they are.

Im pretty sure you guys already answered this question, but didn´t find it in the forum...

I currently have a g430 headset, it says 7.1 audio, but at this time didnt found myself saying anything like "Woooaaah I really like this stuff". Apart from some games with cool bass or explosion stuff. When I watch a movie I can´t tell the difference between a stereo and a 7.1. I don´t know if I have to go deep in configurations or it´s just like that...

My question is... The g430 are bad as 7.1 headset and worth an upgrade or they are all the same and is better to choose a better non 7.1 headset?

Thank you guys in advance.

Just save money for a pair of studio headphones

Not worth getting garbage "gaming" headsets. They sound awful. Except one. The HyperX cloud series. They are okay.

Also surround sound is bullshit. Get good headphones which are stereo and EQ the Bass. My personal favorite closed back headphones are the dt 770 pro. 80ohm. If you want a more realistic natrual sound get the Dt 990s. They are open back. If you want to know more about closed and open back search it up

By any chance, are you deaf on one side? The surround sound processing works under the assumption that you have hearing in both ears. Without this, it will sound pretty much the same as stereo.

The benefit to 7.1 processing is that there is better differentiation between front and back sounds. This is a direct result of the 7.1 format having discrete front and rear channels, whereas stereo is only left and right. That distinct front and back is maintained over headphones as a result of how the audio is processed.

Thank you all for the replies!

I understand better now what to look for. I find very difficult to choose between two headphones without comparing them side by side so I thought I could use some of your experiences. I don´t really use the mic so I think I´ll check the ATH M40X and the non-soldered cable seems great! I won´t have to bother about replacing them because of my cat´s love for putting his teeth on the cables. For now on I´ll get rid of the "gaming" label for sound hardware :3

And thank you very much, guys, I´ve been the past two days trying to read some technical information about headphones but It only made it worse uwu

Have a nice day! ❤️

Glad I could help but like I said though, there are people here with much more experience with headphones than I have and they may have better recommendations in that price range, their opinions are worth a lot more on that topic than mine.
