Looking for a Used CPU to upgrade from my Ryzen 3 1200 OCed to 3.9GHz on a ASRock AB350Pro4 with Wraith Stealth Cooler, Just wondering what the value would be like of some options I've seen compared to the upcoming Ryzen 3 3100@$150+HS=$170

Ryzen 5 2600, was offered for $110+shipping but was sold before I could pull the trigger

Ryzen 5 2600X, Saw some listed for $150-180, thinking maybe $140+shipping max would be a good price unless I can get it for the same price as the non X I was offered?

Ryzen 7 1700, Currently got a offer of one for $140 shipped

Ryzen 7 2700X, Offered one for $280 shipped, but that's out of budget, thinking price of the New Ryzen 3 3100, so $170 would be my absolute max budget

In Canada so Prices are in CAD, just wondering what the best value would be of those?

wait for some time. new ryzen 4000 chips will be out soon and current cpus will drop price (or you can get a faster new one for the same price).

right now is not the time to buy any pc parts. new nvidia is going to come out in the coming months, new ryzen/intel coming in the coming weeks

If you have the budget strictly for just a new CPU, then just go for a 3300x. You won't need to upgrade to a new motherboard. Sure the series 4000 is nice, but you'll have to buy a new motherboard.

CPU is just 1 thing, I also plan on a RAM upgrade as I'm currently using 2x4GB of 2400MHz and a GPU upgrade to replace my RX 470 4GB that runs at 90ish*C under load, thinking/hoping $350-400 Canadian for CPU+RAM+GPU

ryzen 5 1600af used to sell for $85 on amazon

$85 USD=about $120 CAD currently, checking amazon currently, on amazon.com (US) cheapest is $152.50 USD=about $214ish CAD from 2 3rd party sellers both fufilled by amazon, both back ordered, 1 due in stock May 15th, the other is June 15th, on .ca (Canada) Cheapest is $241.41 from a 3rd party seller not fufilled by amazon, and then amazon warehouse deals got one listed for $247.66 in very good condition "Item will come in original packaging. Packaging will be damaged. Minor cosmetic imperfection on top, front or sides of item. Minor cosmetic imperfection on bottom or back of item. Minor cosmetic imperfections on the corner of the item. Accessories may have cosmetic damage.", those prices would be more than the Ryzen 3 3300X

Newegg has $150 r7 2700 from time to time.  Right now they have it for $20 more then 3700x,lol.  But it is marked down to $150 pretty commonly if you keep checking on it.

I wouldn't go more then r3 3300, r5 af chip or 2700/3600 with good sale.  Prices should drop in fall when 4000 comes out, probably even when it just gets exact date announced. sellers will want to try clearing out older stock before launch.  If you go 3000 series, confirm chip will work on board before buying.  Not every b350 mobo will run every ryzen 3000.

Yes, they were $136 for little while in late November. I missed that and paid $150 in dec. Pretty funny to me 3000 series is cheaper then 2000 on newegg.  Newegg is out of stock and it is third party sellers with silly markups, but still.

Well I'd say if the 2700X was less than a 3600X, it would be a tempting purchase.

You left out a lot of needed information from your OP, like what you use your computer for and what your goals are.

Pretty hard to make any recommendations without knowing any of that.

I wouldn't get the 1700 unless your goal is to do more video based work, in which case it might be a good budget option until the next gen comes.

The 2700x isn't worth it at that price when you can get the 3600 for less.

$150 for the 2600x is a pretty good middle ground. Especially given that you're not pushing a good graphics card anyway.

Why are you considering the 3100? Aside from some IPC you're not getting much of an upgrade at all for your money.

Fascinating... I was aware they were from Canada, I had thought newegg just shipped over the border and charged price in Canadian.  It seems they have completely different sales and promotions.  I'm used to online retailers just converting currency when you changed nation setting.  Ryzen prices on Canadian site look equally bad, newegg appears to be out of stock on both sites.  Seems different warehouses as well.  Found some items marked down on one site and full price or out of stock on other.  Funniest is bioshock steam key, 75% off in US, out of stock in canada.....no cross border email?

Newegg and amazon seem to price match each other, so when newegg is back in stock amazon should have similar price.  Pretty sure amazon just converts currency and ships across border.  I had no issues last time I tried buying from Amazon EU store, US was out of stock of item but in stock in Switzerland.

Of the new CPUs for better single performance for sims that need it (Such as iRacing & FSX), it's the cheapest & therefore closest to my budget.

I have a post in the classifieds section here of what i'm looking for:

Then just get the 2600x, maybe try and barter the price down a bit. You don't really need anything more than that.

The 3100 really wouldn't be much of an upgrade at all. It'd be a waste of money.

Honestly, your prices are really off. I don't think you'll see much interest with prices that low. At least for the GTX 980 series; you're at half the going rate for the 980/Ti.

Anything close to that price idea and any sort of upgrade, maybe look for Ryzen 5 1400. At least get 8 threads from the deal. Look at Ebay.CA

Checking ebay.ca for Buy it Now, cheapest (Desktop, not mobile) Ryzen 5/7 CPU (not box or cooler only) is the 1400 used from China for $95 USD/$134 CAD:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/AMD-Ryzen-5-R5-1400-R5-1500X-R5-1600-R5-1600X-Socket-AM4-CPU-Processor/233361700310?hash=item365570f5d6:m:m7X6VYuDrNGLvPh2q20YLrw&var=532915948556

Checking Kijiji (Canadian eBay Classifieds/Gumtree) across Canada, cheapest Ryzen overall is the 1200 listed for $70 ($10 less than I paid for my current 1200 October 2018), for $70 there's the 1200 option & a 1400 though the 1400 lists that must be picked up in Saskatchewan, looking through the next cheapest Ryzen 5 listing is 2 options for a 1500X for $130

How do they compare to the 3100? With the 1400/1500X at $130-134 the 3100 after tax would only be $36-40 more?

Edit: on r/CanadianHardwareSwap, keep in mind I was offered a 1700 for $140 shipped, so $6-10 more than the 1400/1500X & $30 less than the 3100

Well the 3100 would spank the 14/1500X chips. Night and day difference probably 15-20% realistic IPC gain (instructions per clock)

If you have the 40 extra bucks, definitely do that.

Just came across this video of the 2600X vs 1700:

Showed the 2600X was better by a slight-small margin at 1080p, less so at 1440p & par or negligible difference at 4K when paired with a 2080Ti to get the most out of the CPU so what I'm wondering is if I can get the 1700 for $140 shipped while the 2600X would be $10(maybe + shipping) extra, would it be worth holding on for the 2600X or just grab the 1700, more so considering the 1700 got a RGB cooler (Wraith Spire LED) while the 2600X don't & with me wanting a RGB cooler, would need to buy a Wraith Spire LED, Prism or Max to go with it. I'm thinking the 1700 would be better value
