New rig

Hi guys,

 

I’m actually running a 10 years old rig with i5 2500, a gygabite Z68 APD3 motherboard and 8Go DDR3 memory.

I will be running linux on my new rig and I will gaming on it, do some stream, coding and CAD work.

For m’y new one I’m going  for a ryzen 5 3600X for sur . But there is the issue :

- for thé motherboard I was going for an x570 MSI gaming plus (some sans that it’s overkill), Wyatt do you think? And What soule you use instead ?

- for the memory I was going for 16Go of DDR4 3200Mhz and CAS 16 in dual Channel of course.

 

What do you guys think?

X570 MSI boards are trash. Get something from Gigabyte or ASRock.

The MSI X570 boards are not great, at least not the low end boards. Assuming USD here this is the best option:

It's more though. Also using this list to refer to motherboard VRM quality/cooling capacity:

The ideal would be B550.... But yeah lol.

Yeah, seems to be a pretty stark change from their B450 boards which by most accounts were pretty good (BIOS chip size issues not withstanding), especially for their price.

 

I would also consider Asus (as @TheDailyProcrastinator mentioned).

B450 just has no guaranteed support for Zen 3 CPU's making it the end of the line. Don't get me wrong there are great B450 boards, ironically MSI made some of the best B450 boards, but with no future support it is hard to recommend.

I completely agree. The whole situation with Zen 3 support just really sucks

Yup, basically B550 should have come out a year ago along with X570 lol

As @TofuHaroto ask I have arround 1600$ of budget .

 

So I can go for an X570 chipset ? It's not overkill ? And more of the side of Gygabite Aorus or Asus ?

Well if your going with a 3700x/3800x/3900x/3950x I see no problem going with a premium x570 board as they have better future compatibility and a more robust feature set and a more robust power delivery just like what everybody said

but if your going with a r5 and lower 

(With a 1600$ Budget I don't think but either way ) waiting for b550 will be worth every minute of waiting imo

I wasn't precise enough but the 1600$ budget was for the all rig

depends on your budget if you can afford it i see it as future proofing depends on what socket the new ryzen 4000 series comes out with have not looked up prices how much is that board ??

Then honestly just wait for b550 (if you don't need a build like right now )
