So, I've been playing videogames ever since I was 5 more or less (I'm 16 now), and recently decided to go into pc gaming. Thing is, I live in Brazil, and everything is extremely expensive here. So one day, my parents had to travel to the US, and I asked them to buy a PC for me. Obviously, they couldn't buy individual parts, so I looked up a pre built pc online that was (I think) good to buy on Best Buy. Now, I know that's never a recommended thing to do, but I had no choice hahaha. So far, I've had a pretty good experience with it, and despite a few aspects of it, like RAM speed, I think it's actually pretty decent overall. But, now I'm looking for upgrade paths and I'm completely lost. So, I'll put all the specs here and ask for your help lol. Thanks!

Intel Core i7 8700

16.0GB Dual-Channel @ 1197MHz :(

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME H310-PLUS (LGA1151)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

AOC 144hz 1080p monitor

I think that's about it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Edit: Forgot to mention I do have some knowledge about different types of cpus, gpus and the sort, but I'm kind of lost when it comes to motherboards and upgradability.

Keep in mind this memory speed is known as 2400Mhz.

Simply put, DDR = double data rate. Meaning whatever is reported in Windows, is half of what the manufacturers advertise.

2400Mhz is not great, but still adequate on an Intel system.

What are you looking to upgrade in your system? And for what purpose?

e.g. if you're gaming on your system; a CPU upgrade would not be logical at all.

A GPU upgrade for gaming only makes sense if you're running 1080p@144Hz or even higher refresh rate/larger resolution. Upgrading for your 144Hz screen, only makes sense if you're running games that need more GPU power for 144Hz (like CSGO should run fine for example).

With that CPU, you can just upgrade the GPU and have a decent machine.  The 8700 is a decent chip at least Intel releases its new lineup and AMD breaks out the 4xxxx series for us.

Oh I didn't know about the DDR thing, thanks! I'm actually thinking about a gpu upgrade, along with a 1440p (maybe a 4k? depends on the pricing) monitor for gaming purposes

Oh yeah, and also, just out of curiosity, does a RAM upgrade make any sense at all?

Edit: Forgot to say that I do play games like csgo, but also AAA games, like The Witcher 3, and I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk as well

Yea for 1440p/4K you'll want more videocard power.

I would look at the range of 2070 Super or RX 5700XT.

Can do 4K at most games, Ultra at around 60fps avg.

1440p would also easily work for both cards

So the 2070 Super and 5700XT can do 4k 60 on Ultra?  Is this a new driver update or something?  Thought 4k was reserved for 2080Super and/or 2080Ti?

The 2070 Super barely, in the one game OP mentioned that is actually out now.

https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_rtx_2070_super_gaming_z_trio_review,20.html

Which is why I said 'around', too.

I suppose the 5700XT can't in that specific game (which is pretty 'Nvidia favored' to be fair).

But I guess it depends on the game.
