Insufficient info. Type of internet? Are you restarting your router, the 'gateway' device (FIOS ONT / DSL router / FIOS router / cable modem / etc), or your PC? Let's start there.

Oh sorry, I'm having to disable the WiFi on the desktop then turn it back on.

Is the problem only with the computer or are other devices having the same issue? What WiFi adapter or motherboard are you using if the motherboard has built in WiFi?

It's only with my desktop, my laptop does fine as well as everything else. Here is the WiFi adapter I'm using TP-Link AC1200 PCIe Wireless Wifi PCIe Card | 2.4G/5G Dual Band Wireless PCI Express Adapter | Low Profile, Long Range Beamforming Heat Sink Technology | Supports Windows 10/8.1/8/7/XP (Archer T4E) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NFMSGGR/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_doXUEbGR52YRM

Please answer all questions (and all parts of questions) if you want us to provide you with a fast answer. Or else this could make for a very long and drawn out thread.

The information you have provided so far is very vague.

Ok, I'll be as specific as I can, every 30-40 minutes, the internet will sort of just vanish, like it's there in the toolbar, but it says connected no internet, so what I will do is click on the option to turn the WiFi off, (still at my desktop) and then turn it back on, once I do this, the internet will be connected and working normally but the problem seems to just crop back up later. I have a cable internet connection, I'm not sure exactly what  modem I have, but I also have a netgear nighthawk ac1750 smart wifi 5 router I bought late last month. Hopefully this helps, sorry for being needlessly vague.

Please determine what is the exact make/model of the device supplied by your ISP

Also, if I'm not mistaken, my mother bought this, as she is kinda paranoid about using anything the ISP provides.

When you decide to use your own modem/gateway other than what the ISP provides, you have to ensure that it is approved for use by the ISP and that they provide you with the correct configuration for it to work properly on their network. Or else you won’t get full speed access or you might experience hiccups like this.

If, for example, your ISP is pushing some setting changes to its customers’ modems, they’re expecting these devices to be a particular make/model and MAC address. You go and change the modem without telling them, those updates either won’t work or your modem might behave like how it is now.

What are your LAN and WiFi settings?

Can you run a wireless survey using WiFi Analyzer and post the graphical output of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands? Please highlight your network’s SSID(s).

@AzrealNoctis

I hope you’re not using the 2.4GHz band for anything important. You’re in a heavily-congested 2.4GHz wireless airspace! Please move your PC, phones, tablets, etc. to the 5GHz SSID. Unimportant IoT devices (e.g. smart doorbells, smart bulbs, etc.) can stay on 2.4GHz.

Your 5GHz radio is sharing channel 153 with someone else’s network. Move the 5GHz broadcast to channel 48. What is the channel width, power output, security/encryption for your 5GHz SSID?

Is your Nighthawk the R6400 or R6700 variant?

Security:wpa2-psk

Can't see the channel width, not even on the router config site, also I'm not sure what youean by power output, there is a setting for transmit power controll and it's at 100%

Does it specify if using AES or TKIP? Are there any other options for security?

That’s fine.

Did you change the 5GHz channel as suggested? Connect to the SSID corresponding to it and run a speed test.

1: it is the r6400 varient

2:it is aes, it does have the option for tkip but i can't change that right now, since it would reset the router again and my mother and stepdad are on it rn.

3: I switched it to 48 but then I was getting 30mbps on a 200mbps plan so I switched channels to 161

OK.

Leave it as WPA2-PSK-AES.

Ensure that ‘Airtime Fairness’ and ‘Implicit Beamforming’ are turned on. And when you get some time, power-cycle both the modem and the wireless router.

Run the speed test when no one else is accessing the network and at off-peak hours. That 30 Mbps could have been due to concurrent usage with other family members. Is the connection more consistent? Are you able to plug an ethernet cable into the desktop and wireless router? If so, are your speed tests better and the connection more consistent?

On the desktop experiencing the slow WiFi, go into the adapter properties and disable power saving, set roaming aggressiveness to minimum, prefer 5GHz, and enable Beamforming if available.

Did you download and install the latest drivers from the TP-Link website?

Also, ensure that your wireless router is updated to the latest stable stock firmware from Netgear. Optimizations and fixes might have been applied. Pay attention to the model and version number for your R6400. I suggest you flash any new firmware only while directly wired to the router.

I'll update the firmware on the router tonight probably, I got the latest drivers from the website, but still no option for beamforming even though the card supports it.
