I want to add some case fans to my phanteks p400a case. I want pwm fans. I am finding all the different types of fans very confusing. I have an ryzen 7 3700x with a noctua dh-15 on it. Rog strux x570-f motherboard. Using an sapphire pulse rx5700xt graphics card. I have a  budget of around £80. Any suggestion as to how many and what fans to get

How many do you have now?

What color of fan would you like? Noctua has the default ugly brown ones, or you can find black , transparent, grey, white, lots of options there.

Any LED lighting that you would like? Again this can be as simple as single color 12v, or full RGB or ARGB type fans where a controller may be required.

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 9070XT Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X470-F RAM: Corsair 32GB Vengeance 3600Mhz PSU: Corsair RM850X White

Cooling: Corsair H115i RGB Storage: Samsung 970 Evo NVME (2TB) Case: NZXT H500i White

Keyboard: Corsair K70 Mechanical Mouse: Logitech Superlight 2

so at the moment, if you only have one fan then we would definitely want to get you some fresh air intake fans. If you do not want RGB or lighting, just a quiet PWM fan then either a noctua 120mm pwm fan or a be quiet! 120mm pwm fan would help out. at an 80 dollar budget you may only be able to get 2 of them, but its better than nothing. Amazon has many many many different 120mm fans on the site, so I would check there to see what meets your needs. I can vouch for the be quiet! and noctua fans being a very silent operating fan.

I looked at the chassis on the phanteks page and it looks like you should be able to fit 3 120mm fans on the front or 2 140mm fans on the front, 2 120mm or 2 140mm fans on the top and 1 120mm fan on the rear. Be conscious of how many headers are on your motherboard vs how many fans you want, as if you have less headers on the board than you have available slots on the case, you will require some form of controller.

the typical layout on a chassis like this (however your mileage may vary) is 3 intakes on the front, 2 exhausts on the top, and 1 exhaust on the rear

Does the type of fan matter? I seen static pressure and airflow ones

Unless it's nearly completely unobstructed static is usually better.

Would a noctua nf-s12a pwm be ok? I would be able to get four of these.  I

nf-f12 or nf-p12 or nf-a12x25 would be better choices IMO

Yes, they're excellent.

The front of the P400A is pretty close to that without having no dust filtration at all.

NF-F12's definitely wouldn't provide as much airflow for the noise. It's probably a pretty close toss up between the NF-A12x25 and NF-S12A. NF-P12's are also very good but aren't as quiet.
