I never knew sony were working on one for the ps4? (i assume its for the ps4)

That is correct PS4 only and its not the one that is only meant for media consumption.

Home Theater is the idea for the connection. Not PS4 Exclusive, and it's for media consumption

Also, the cheaper. *Competition is good for the consumer*

If the Sony one launches at 500 dollars (half of the TV version so... Why not?) hopefully Oculus will come back with a counter... :P

Im expecting the Sony one to come out cheap... ISH... This is for a system that people were fine paying 500 dollars or whatever for... So I could see them making it 300 dollars or something.

Depends how good that they can make VR.  If the Rift/Sony set is a game changer like i mean a true game changer i can see people paying more.  When DK2 launches price for me is no object plus i will get a consumer version when launched.  So if i'm stupid enough to spend that much money i'm sure there will be alot more :P

The difference is that we're computer people. Technology people. Most people don't know what VR stands for, let alone the idea of it.

I don't think a lot of people are going to rush out and buy one, just because it exists, most people will just stay with their TV that they already have (IMO).

For the console, they knew the hype, they knew the idea already, consoles are in their minds. For VR, it's a foreign idea right now, they don't understand how it works, or what it'll do.

soo, 1440p? Would a gtx 780 push that fine? Also, is it 2 1440p screens or just one. I don't understand the screens behind the box

Yeah, I have a 1440P monitor and a 780 and get perfectly fine fps in ultra. I turn down AA though. I believe it would be one screen.

That's not the question... How many will come is.

Have you tried a Rift?  It has so much potential and if they deliver this game changer trust me they will come out in droves.  You don't think more then half the planet wants to plug in and zone out of the world around them?  I think the possible question will be not how many will come but how many will develop VR addiction.

How bad is the screendooring etc etc

On DK1 its bad you can notice it but i will say after you wear it for a while you just ignore that its there.  The reason you want to wait for DK2 is the low persistance, positional tracking and the other assumed things like higher quality screens maybe better optics and the IR webcam for positional tracking cause i assume at this point they will keep the webcam cause its the quick dirty fix for tracking.  If they do something else that doesn't require a webcam then awesome for them
