Hello guys!

I recently bought an RTX 2080Ti (MSI gaming trio), and haven't been to fond with the performance.

My specs:

I7-6700k(4000Mhz)

16GB DDR4 3200MHZ

2080Ti

What kind of performance should I expect with this GPU/CPU combination?

On Battlefield one, i'm playing on 1440p, with most settings on ultra, and its struggling to get 100fps average. Is this normal?

And if i upgrade my CPU, would that increase FPS by a lot?

Looking forward to your insights!

The 2080Ti bottlenecks the 8700k in some instance, never mind an older CPU with 2 less cores and 4 less threads. You're at quite the disadvantage with that combo IMHO. Why didn't you save money and get a better CPU?

Gaming Build:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3800x   |  GPU: Asus ROG STRIX 2080 SUPER Advanced (2115Mhz Core | 9251Mhz Memory) |  Motherboard: Asus X570 TUF GAMING-PLUS  |  RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 3600MHz 16GB  |  PSU: Corsair RM850x  |  Storage: 1TB ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro, 250GB Samsung 840 Evo, 500GB Samsung 840 Evo  |  Cooler: Corsair H115i Pro XT  |  Case: Lian Li PC-O11

Peripherals:

Monitor: LG 34GK950F  |  Sound: Sennheiser HD 598  |  Mic: Blue Yeti  |  Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Platinum  |  Mouse: Logitech G502

Laptop:

Asus ROG Zephryus G15

Ryzen 7 4800HS, GTX1660Ti, 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz, 512GB nVME, 144hz

NAS:

QNAP TS-451

6TB Ironwolf Pro

That's pretty good! So even RAM impacts FPS now? I'm getting old :D

there is no guarantee of 25%, but if everything works as it should, you should expect that much. the ram may not cause much issues, depends on the game. but yes, if the ram is not enough for what you running, it will bottleneck everything else. its your call, but i would probably go for a new cpu first, and see how it goes before going for ram.

you want at least a 6 core 12 thread CPU for battlefield it will increase smootness and framerates A LOT.

i was playing on a 4.3ghz 4770K and the upgrade to 8700K was a nice one back then...and on a 1080ti!!...your 2080ti will push even more frames which mean your CPU will get overloaded real quick i assume..i'd recommend you go with 8 cores and 12 threads like the ryzen 7 3700X or 9900K

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 3 VR

Thank you for your input! Would it be wise to upgrade now, or better to save some money and upgrade when the new Intel CPUs come out? (Soon I think?)

So what kind of performance gain are we looking at? Rough estimate?

+30% overall FPS and +35% smootness in frames delivery times...which in normal terms would mean: demanding games will feel a lot smoother with a proper CPU.

I assume you have a high refresh rate 1440p monitor? Gsync?

no i think you just blew so much money on a high-end GPU you can't let it sit like that you MUST upgrade...

Sell your current kit you should be able to get some nice money for that from someone right?

And then, i'd really go with Ryzen since it's cheaper...R5 3600 would do decently better it's almost comparable to i7-8700 in some games IF you pair it with fast memory...

But the golden spot would be a B450 Tomahawk max with a R7 3700X and re-use your RAM maybe?

what ram do you have?

16 GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX - DDR4-3200

perfect, re-use that...load the XMP profile and away you go.

You can try some overclock on the CPU with this motherboard it'll take it...just don't go too far with the volts in fact i'd leave it at stock or so

and just try to increase the core clock to 4.0 or 4.1ghz on all cores and call it a day it'll be an extremely capable chip for you for years to come no matter what you'll need it'll get it done.

if money is no problem at all tho...i'd still recommend the 9900K over the Ryzen tho...but we are talking a lot more $$

Before all the patches ruined bf1, I got a solid 120fps with the game maxed out on 1440 with a 1080. My old cpu struggled some maps but I’m sure it will be the case that combo.
