If the price ever goes back down, the Ryzen 7 2700x is another good option. When I got mine it was $160, but recently the price has skyrocketed up to $300... If the price does come back down though, it offers around the same level of performance as the Ryzen 5 3600 but you get two extra cores. For now though if you don't have time to wait, the Ryzen 5 3600 or 7 3700x are both great options.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Actually, no it doesn't. It offers the same performance when they're both at base clock, but when you turn on PBO or manually set them to the maximum stable all-core clock, the 3600 trounces the 2700X for anything in the 1-12 thread range of processing, and MATCHES the 2700X for 13-16 thread performance.
