I currently have an i7 7700k, b150 asrock mb(ik it’s old), rtx 2070, 32gb ram, 750w ps, 500gb ssd, 2tb hd.

I have about $370 to spend on a new cpu and about $170 on a motherboard and was wondering if i should get and intel i7 9700k or the amd equivalent (i’m not sure of the amd names) and what mother board i should get for the respected cpu (going for a black and white build). thanks

between the i7 9700k and the ryzen 7 3700x the amd option is the obvious choice

gaming system: Intel core I9 12900ks / biostar Z690A valkyrie / 4x8gb corsair Vengeance @3333Mhz ram / RX 7900XTX pulse gpu / Thermalright peerless assassin 140 /Coolermaster Qube 500 case / Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 12 1500w power supply

laptop: Dell xps 9510, 3.5k OLED, i7 11800h, rtx 3050 ti, 2x16gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz, 1TB main drive, 2TB add in ssd

7700k is still pretty good. just overclock the cpu.

It depends what you're playing. There are games that a quad core really struggles in.

Not really. I'd definitely recommend a 3600X and a good cooler over a 3700X. More cores isn't better.

Grab a 3700X and an ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming or Asus X570-P. The 9700K runs hotter, uses much more power and performs worse. Not to mention the dozen intel security issues.

Is there another MB you would recommend... that ones a little pricy. Thanks!

If even that's pricey, no X570 board then. MSI B450 Tomahawk or its max variant?
