Hi guys!

I'm planning on building a gaming rig but i have a couple, probably, dumb questions and insecurities to what i'm going to do since it's my first time doing. I manly chose MSI products because of the case that was love on the first sight and thought... 'I don't want 5 different RGB softwares on my PC'. And so, i tried keeping everything Mystic Light software. My main questions are...

Is everything compatible or do i need to change anything?

Since i don't plan on overclocking, do i need a good/expensive cooler for the CPU? If so, i would pick between Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black or the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. For water coolers which I would pick over any air cooler because it looks way better and cleaner I would go for the Corsair H150i Pro RGB. If i don't really need those expensive ones to get a good performance/temperatures can you guys suggest goods coolers that do the job but are less bulky and good looking? Mainly black.

The last question is clearance issues with the coolers/rams or anything else to be honest, is there an easy way of checking if everything fits into place?

The list of parts goes like this:

- MSI GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER gaming X trio 8GB

- MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC

- Intel Core i7-9700k

- Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB

- MSI MPG Gungnir 100 RGB

- Corsair RM850

- Seagate Barracuda 2TB

- Samsung 860 Evo 500GB

If anyone takes the time to help me out I would be very appreciated! Thank you!

If you aren't overclocking, don't buy a CPU cooler. Use your money for something else.

I would put your parts into:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

It has a compatibility filter so it will let you know if parts do not fit. From the looks of it everything should be okay.

But get a different SSD, for the price of an 860 evo you can go NVME. Also, overspend on the PSU, get a 750W unit, the RM/RMx is a good choice though.

This is a personal preference but a better airflow case = better thermals = better performance.

For your cooler a mid-range air cooler will do just fine if you do not plan to OC.

I recommend something like this:

If you want RGB you can add some RGB fans!

I probably will keep the case tho, i just really fell in love with it. I just wasn't sure on which range i should be looking for. I really liked your suggestion on the Artic Freezer one! Thank you!

An Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO is overkill for a Core i7 9700K that is going to be used at stock without any overclocking. I would not recommend the Core i7 9700K for your system, the Ryzen 7 3700X has 8 more threads and only 7 percent less effective speed than the i7 9700K at an almost $ 90 cost savings.

I would recommend a Ryzen 7 3700X which includes a CPU cooler which should be great if you're planning to run at stock or even with a light overclock:        https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SXMZLPK?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

I saw many things about AMD, looks great too! To be honest i don't really know if i should think on OC or not, most people when building a gaming PC talk about it as a usual thing to do, at least from what i've read so far.

Other thing is I'm kinda trying to make a PC somewhat future proof if you know what i mean, and it's going to be 100% used for gaming and since the i7 is superior... ehh i'm still unsure if the price makes it up you know

Fair enough, like I said cases are a personal preference. Yes, it is a good value cooler (despite what others would say lol), perfect for a 9700k, anything more gets you diminishing returns. You will have a good gaming rig on your hands!

I understand your concern, the first time you build a computer will be the most steep learning curve, although it will become significantly easier by the 2nd or 3rd time. Watch some build guides on the internet for computers being built in your case for cable management strategies and other helpful information.

As close as we are to the 10th gen Intel chips, I would wait, although if you would like to build now, I would say that the 3700X would be a good choice for a value CPU. You are not really going to get that much better gaming performance with an i7 9700K and it costs significantly higher to the point where I would say that it is not worth the minimal future proofing for the added cost of $ 85.85.

A DeepCool Gammaxx 400 would work with a Core i7 9700K (LGA 1151) or Ryzen 7 3700X (AM4) with stock or light overclocking and costs $20.23 less than an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO.

you should be good on ram clearance. I had 4 sticks of reg vengeance and switched to vengeance rgb with this cooler. I was blowing out the back and it covered up some of the rgb. This cooler is big, I would find out if you can close the side door in that mid case. mine was touching side panel. might start a new thread in cases here and ask if anyone has experience with that combination. you could go with a smaller cooler to.

That's one of the things i spend more time doing in this quarantine ahaha i find it really interesting and i learn a lot from it. Not only that but trying to understand stuff.

I'll take any cooler into consideration! I heard that there could be ram/cooler clearance issues does that happen a lot or is it only on some kinds of ram/cooler?

Thank you!

i7 9700k can still run hot.

Worth the spend, the Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO performs a lot better.

you should be good on ram clearance.

That bothers me aswell, not being able to know or not being sure if it does fit in the case or not. Besides the fact of the cooler covering up some of the ram. I want a somewhat pretty PC too haahah

You won't have a RAM clearance issues with the Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO and 2 sticks of RAM!

I'll take any cooler into consideration! I heard that there could be ram/cooler clearance issues does that happen a lot or is it only on some kinds of ram/cooler?

Thank you!

It depends on the motherboard, cooler, and RAM when it comes to potential clearance issues. You could cut off some of the heatsink to make it work with even tall RAM modules, although you would need to have access to the tools needed.

The 10th gen Intel processors are expected to be a really significant performance boost from 9th gen or even older, I would highly recommend waiting for the 10th gen processors to be released (they are going to be announced on April 30, 2020!) or going with a Ryzen 7 3700X which includes a cooler + RGB fan. Intel 10th gen processors are going to be significantly more future proof than 9th gen or going back a few more generations.

I was still thinking on a i9-9000k but after reading about i7-9700k and people saying it's already ok for gaming ehh

Honestly, I wouldn't build any 9th generation Intel based computer at the moment when we are that close to the 10th gen processors. An Intel Core i7 10700K would be what I would recommend going with when they are made available.

A Core i7-10700 non-overclockable CPU would cost $376 and the Core i7-10700K would cost $419. The 9th gen and older chips would more than likely be dropped down in price when the 10th gen CPUs are made available.

So the K only means that a CPU is overclockable? Or is it, without being overclocked, better? Sorry for my ignorance, i'm just actually thinking about that now lol

The only significant difference between the "K" version and the non "K" version would be the overclocking support available on the "K" version and not available with the non "K" version of the processor. Although, there is a slightly faster stock speed frequency on the "K" version. If you aren't planning to OC then I would not get the "K" version.
