I'm a noob when it comes to the gaming pc world.  Right now, im in the process of picking out parts to on pcpartpicker to build my first pc.  My question for now deals with storage.  With NVME, HDD, and sata 6 ssd to choose from, i'm having a hard time what ones to choose from.  I'm looking for fast load times but also being able to have a lot of sorage space for games and whatnot.

An nvme drive to boot, essentially your c drive

then add a hard drive with remainder of storage budget for raw TB game drive storage.

I did 1Tb NVME + 2Tb purple seagate for pr0n and stuff and on my fresh install it feels really snappy and still got 500 Gb for more games, essentially anything that's not too heavy or doesn't need to load instantly like PvP stuff is fine in a large, slower HDD.

The standard build is

250GB M.2 boot drive

500GB-1TB SSD Game library drive

2TB HDD storage (no regular read/write) for videos, pictures etc.

You can up or down the size to fit needs.

Most builds I’ve seen is just boot from the 500-1Tb ssd if there is one, no point in worrying about the 30gb windows takes.

is a 1 tb nvme drive too big to boot or should i go 500g? Then should i go with a ssd or hdd for drive storage

you can get as large as you want, I use a 1tb ssd for boot and keep 3 largish games on it to reduce load times.

There are some small advantages to having a separate boot drive or partition but nothing that great these days now we have good cloud storage.

But the main benefit is that sweet sweet windows load time from an nvme m.2, oh those sweet sweet OS load times.

In other words yes, if you don't want/need the m.2 then a 1TB SSD to boot & game drive plus a 1-2TB storage drive for videos and pictures is totally standard too.

I just think a lot of us just like the epee the m.2 gives us.
