Hi LTT forum members,

My friend who is going to high school soon has a crappy Lenovo laptop with a Core i5 7th gen or 6th gen and Windows 7 OS. It is oh damn crappy as even in ROBLOX, on the lowest settings he can hit graphics of up to 0.4 FPS and average of 9 FPS in game. I have build several PCs and because we live in Singapore the converted price of his budget is 1100 USD (1.5k SGD). My recommended parts for him are

Intel Core i3-9100F

Cooler Master i7C cooler

Gigabyte B365 DS3H

G.skill Ripjaw V series 16GB 3200Mhz

Crucial P1 500GB

Seagate Barracude 2TB

Asus Radeon RX 580

NZXT H510

EVGA BQ 500W semi modular psu

ACER KG241

I went Intel because he is a gamer and would appreciate a few extra frames

Cooler is pretty decent RGB cooler, he won't do much oc and only plays ROBLOX but would like a higher demanding game like Phantom Forces to have max graphics

For RAM it's 3200 Mhz cause he may be using it for large scale data transfer in high school

SSD for Os and ROBLOX

HDD for junk in school

Radeon RX 580 for the free sync and to push out about 100 fps in ROBLOX

Case I chose the H510 because I have worked with it before and the cable management is pretty decent NGL

PSU I went for the trusted source and a semi modular PSU because lesser wires to deal with and moderate price

Monitor as it has 144 Hz, suitable for FPS games and Free sync for better experience.

If you have any other suggestion which would benefit the build but does cross the budget please let me know. Any suggestions and improvements would be highly appreciated as I want the best experience for my friend without having to spend too much money

With AMD matching Intel in performance on their current gen, and the upgrade path being quite superior, you should definitely consider a Ryzen 5 3500 and a cheap B450 motherboard.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I don't think going with an i3 9100F instead of a Ryzen 5 3500 would give you significant performance gain given the GPU.

Main Rig :

Ryzen 7 2700X | Powercolor Red Devil RX 580 8 GB | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 | 16 GB TeamGroup Elite 2400MHz | Samsung 750 EVO 240 GB | HGST 7200 RPM 1 TB | Seasonic M12II EVO | CoolerMaster Q300L | Dell U2518D | Dell P2217H |

It would. If you can wait for a month, I would recommend waiting for the 3100 and 3300x which will launch on May 21st. They're 4c/8t, which is better than the 3200G 4c/4t. A good board for this platform would be the MSI Tomahawk, just pick the mATX one.

My friends getting his new pc after Covid-19 so I will need to check the prices of the 3100x. As long as it can handle some lightweight games like ROBLOX on max graphics and some 1080p video editing it's alright

It's 100 dollars for the 3100 and 120 dollars for the 3300x.
