Question about this 24pin connector on this PSU

VincentVolaju

On this PSU, it has the big pin connector labeled "24 Pin ATX". However, when I count them, it is only actually 18pin; is that normal?

Could it be that the 24 pin connector cable is 24pin on 1 side of it that plugs into the mobo, but only 18 pin on the other side that plugs into the PSU?

The 10 pin connector on the left is also used for the 24 pin cable. There are extra pins for Vsense. This is common for many mid-high end PSUs.

What PSU is that?

Looks like a Corsair RM750x 2018 to me. Or something similar

I've never heard of Vsense before? So then is the 24pin cable that goes to the mobo, the normal 24pin on 1 side, but the PSU side has 2 split ends, 1 being 18 and 1 being 10?

Lol, I've been using it for over 15 years now in different forums, MMOs, and online games. Only 3-4 people have ever actually known who Vincent Volaju was; one of the greatest!

Vsense is a voltage sense. Due to resistance in the wires, the voltage at the motherboard end will be slightly lower than the PSU output. To compensate the PSU has extra wires that measure the voltage at the motherboard connector so that it ensures that the correct voltage arrives at the motherboard.

That power supply has sense wires which report the voltage at the end of the cable back to the power supply. It has an additional 4 sense wires making a total of 28 wires on the power supply end.

The 10 pin connector next to the 18 pin is also part of the 24pin connector.

The 24-pin of the Type 4 cable set also has a unique feature not implemented in the standard Type 3 cables. There are a total of 28-pins where the cable plugs into the PSU's modular interface, instead of the usual 24-pins. The extra four pins are "sense wires". While a +3.3V sense is part of the ATX standard and is found on most PSUs, it is not often implemented. The RMi not only utilizes the +3.3V sense on the ATX connector, but also utilizes an additional +12V sense and +5V sense. These sense wires read the voltages at the load (the end of the cable) and can increase voltage automatically if voltages drop.
