2600k doesn't work unless I disable a core, fixable?

Go to solution Solved by Applefreak,

Well if the problem was present when he bought the cpu, he would have sent it in for replacement.

I am guessing he went too far with his overclocks and broke something.

Sadly there is nothing you can do.

So recently purchased a used mobo-ram-cpu combo for a build. The seller told me the CPU won't work unless a core is disabled and couldn't tell me for sure why this was the case. I was just wondering if anyone here had any suggestions on possibly fixing this or if I'm stuck with running it at 3 cores.

Cheers!

He had it overclocked, but I've reverted everything to default. And he said the problem was present when he first got the CPU.

I figured, i tried everything I could think of but thought I'd ask more knowledgeable people. I'm fine with 3 cores anyways since its only gonna be used as a word processing/browsing PC. Thanks
