Hi, I've been into blenderr lately, I think I have a decent pc but the render times are pretty long. I think there's alot of room for improvement if I upgrade my pc. so I have a few questions about that, first my current setup:

-i5 6500 cpu

-8gb ddr4 ram

-MSI gtx 1060 3gb graphics card

-1500gb ssd storage

-B150 Gaming M3 motherboard

I was thinking about upgrading my gpu, the main goal is to speed up the render times. currently

option 1:I was thinking about adding a gtx 1070 combined with the 1060, but I red that this isn't a great combi, is this true?

option 2: selling the 1060 and adding  1070's, I red that 2 gpu's will be great for rendering. but will my cpu bottleneck the gpu's too much? or can it handle them?

option 3: selling the 1060 and getting a single 1080, will the 1080 be much worse than 2 1070's or can it compete? and can my cpu handle this graphics card?

alot of questions but I think this is the ideal forum for them. Thanks in advance for the answers and I am happy to answer any questions!

You'd be better off getting a new system with more cores than having multiple GPU.

That i5 only have 4 cores, getting 8 cores would have massive impact like 9900k or Ryzen 3800x.

Also using 2 gpus may increase the power requirement, if you take this route i suggest getting a single 1080.

Get the 1080 and saves up for the system overhaul.

You need a i7 at least and more rams.

A used 6700 or 7700 is aroun 150$. You might as well then go for a ryzen 2600 system as that will be far better for blender. The i7's really do not add much in blender as all they add is hyper threading.

That and you'll have to get a new motherboard anyways so might as well do that now.

you don't need a new mobo for a 6700 or 7700. a 2600 system also just adds hyperthreading and will be much more expensive than $150.

It adds 2 more cores + hyper threading. The new board is for a future upgrade my bad I didn't make that clear.

Knowing blender a bit, two 1070s will be faster, but a 1080 will just work and not bug around

alright, so i've searched a bit, wil these upgrades work well together and improve my render time?

1. upgrade 1060 to 1080 or 1080ti (second hand)

2. upgrade motherboard from B150 Gaming M3 to B450 gaming plus max (new)

3. upgrade i5 6500 to AMD RYZEN 2600 (new)

I also have a 550w psu, will this have to be upgraded too with the other changes?

What 550w psu? If it's a good unit it will be fine.

You can also get a msi mortar max or tomahawk if those are cheaper. Both are high quality boards.

All those upgrades will heavily decrease your rendertimes. Also for the ram you have is it a 2x4gb kit and at what speed?

yeah its 2x4, @ 2133MHz, it'll be a bit too expensive to also upgrade the ram, and im pretty sure blender doesnt use too much ram, any1 can confirm that?

Ram gets used more the more is going on in the scene. But you should be fine for a bit and upgrade it later. Ryzen performs a lot better with faster ram but for now that kit will be fine. In the future get a 16gb kit that is 3000mhz or higher and replace the 8gb one with it.

The psu is meh and might work.

9400F would need a new motherboard, same cost as the Ryzen.
With the same motherboard the max you can upgrade is 7700K.

Ryzen is better because you won't need to buy new motherboard if you need to use a 16 cored cpu.
