I was looking at getting an upgraded gpu, but then I was thinking, what would I do with my

old one. It’s still a decent card. I currently have the msi Radeon rx 580 8GB. I was thinking of upgrading to a msi Radeon rx 5700. I also know the 580 supports crossfire. Would it be better performance from two 580s or just getting the 5700. I don’t know much about crossfire

The primary issue that you'll face with crossfire is that it doesn't work at all in some games and doesn't scale that well in most of them. Two RX580s won't give you twice the frame rates in most cases or anything like that, the only place where it will scale very well is in workloads such as rendering. If you're looking for something to do with the old GPU you could look in to selling it on whatever website that people use locally for you to sell these kind of things and then use the extra funds to go for a 5700 XT or just pocket the extra cash.

Would you say go for the 5700xt or stuck with a 5700? I’ve heard the performance isn’t much better for the price

The 5700 definitely has the better price:performance ratio but if you have the extra cash and you want a bit more performance you will still get that by getting the xt it just won't necessarily be as optimal. I have the 5700 xt but I chose it over the 5700 because when I was buying it it cost only £20 more than the non-xt but at the end of the day the decision should just be whether or not you feel that the extra frames are worth it, you will notice a difference between the two cards though.

i would suggest you keep the rx 580 as a backup. they are still really good cards for lower cost builds and besides the extra hardware helps if you need it.,

Thanks. I’ll probably spend the extra 80 or so and go for better
