Upgrade help

Specs:
Cpu: intel i5 7600
Mobo: Asus prime h270 pro
Gpu: Msi gtx 1660 super
Ram: 16gb
Monitor: aoc 144hz

I’m new to PC building and it appears I have a CPU bottleneck. I’m getting a gameplay with lots of stutter and variation in fps. It makes playing the games far less enjoyable then a steady frame rate.

How should I fix this issue? Cpu upgrade maybe? I don’t have a lot of money.

Have you tried raising your graphics settings to offload some of the work onto your GPU. It'll reduce your framerate, but it should make life easier on your CPU

I raised by graphics settings to nearly max , but my cpu usage is still at a constant 100%

Would I have to change my mobo to get a good upgrade?

No, a 7700, or even an 8700 if you want to, will work with your mobo.

So assuming I do change the mobo, what Cpu and board  would recommend I get.

Ryzen 5 3600 - best mid-range option
Ryzen 7 3700X - best higher end option

Those are your main choices. Pair then with a decent B450 board like the Steel Legend and you're golden

Ok thank you so much for your help. If I upgrade those two would I also have to change my ram sticks?

Use pcpartpicker for part compatibility if you want to be sure in the future

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

The socket is the same, yes, but the chipset is not. 1151v1 is the 6000/7000 series of CPUs while 1151v2 is the 8000/9000 CPUs. The reason for this is that Intel like selling chipsets
