Ecc ram will fix some memory errors. Memory can have random errors, and without ecc the system has no idea it has an error. This errors can cause file corruption or crashing. For desktop use, its rare enough, most people won't notice the difference. For worstations where errors are more likely to cause issues, ecc is more likely to be used.

If you are running a server or always up workstation where stability is more important than performance (ECC is usually slower than non ECC) then it can be good to get.

If you are just gaming, surfing and making videos etc., then it's not worth it.

Hi guys, i have small favor. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between ECC and NON-ECC ram in a most simple explanation possible. Does give any benefit to gaming and Workstation(editing photo etc.)?

I been google about an hour but i still don't get it. Thank You 😗

ECC RAM has an extra chip on board to detect and correct bit errors, very rarely a tiny amount of data on RAM can become corrupted which might result in corrupting other data on your drives or over the network, non-ECC cannot do that by itself though because the negligible amount of flipped bits or errors that occur it wouldn't cause a catastrophic failure in your OS and there are measures involved for the OS and programs to combat (but not detect) this kind of behavior by either having tools to check your entire OS for corrupt data (not automatically, it is only done manually after a corruption has already happened) or by implementing Autosaves and storing Temporary Data in programs if they do run through this to save themselves from complete corruption, it's important to know that this is extremely rare and wouldn't be noticeable to you on a daily basis, it is only meant for applications where there's a huge amount of data constantly going in and out of the RAM chips 24/7 and as that amount increases the amount of corrupt data does as well and it might become significant which is mainly why it is used, it is definitely not beneficial and/or worth it for photo editing or gaming.
