Getting A Better GPU For My Office PC

DylanMased

I Had recently gotten an Office PC and was looking to get a GPU for it.

Keep in mind I plan on doing work and light gaming :)

Specs: 435W PSU

4GB of DDR3 RAM

Intel core 2 duo e8400

ADATA SU800 Ultimate 256GB

(Its in a Dell Vostro 230 slim case and i'm broke so I have a $40 CAD budget)

That is limiting your options a lot. Do you know if your PSU has the 6 or 9-pin GPU power connector? If not maybe find a 2nd hand 1050 or 950 if they exist in slim sizes. (Altho im not sure if those fit in budget, still reasonable fast cards)

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

I would save until you can buy a GPU worth more than $28 USD or $40 CAD. There really isn't much on the market at that price point, and what is there is close to unusable for anything but 10+ year old games. GPUs that old typically don't last long, and don't have enough VRAM to do anything meaningful.

Main issue here is that it's a slim so sff computer and only low profile cards are supported. Which of course are a lot more expensive. What do you mean with light games? For your budget there are low profile hd 7570's and the like out there but that would be it.

I've Found plenty of hd 8490's in my budget range

And games like CS:GO, Minecraft, Spelunky

Nothing hard to really run

The hd 7570 is well 3 times better and should still be in your budget range. If you are really lucky a gtx 650 low profile may also show up in that range.
