Hello everyone!

So i've reached the point where i have started considering what to do with my gaming pc . New titles coming out like AC: Odyssey , Metro etc are too demanding for my PC to handle adequately and i can only barely run them with every graphics setting turned to low which is not something i want to do .

My question is what do i do ? Is there any point in upgrading my current system by getting a new GPU and going to 16gb of RAM ? Or should i just wait for the new 4000 Ryzens to release later this year and build a brand new rig ?

CPU: AMD FX-8320

GPU: GIGABYTE R9 280

MOBO: ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0

RAM: 2x4 GB @ 1600 MHZ

Thanks in advance !

depending on finances , I would either get a new rig (mobo, cpu, Gfx) or just get a new gfx , as that is the best bang for buck when it comes to games. The cpu will hold you back but not as much as your Gfx. Play at lower resolutions eg 720p (the horror, the horror)  Gif Killgore .. its not as bad as you think. Most gfx are still integrated intel .

Ryzen 4000 seems to be an optimization phase after 3000, which means smaller gains than say 2000 to 3000 series and more comparable to moving from 1000 to 2000 series. Whether you should buy now or later depends on budget though since your current build is dated as a whole

Yeah playing in 720p is probably something i don't want to do under any circumstances at all xD

Budget isn't really the issue, i could build a new rig without a problem . But my point is that if i can just do a cheaper upgrade and continue to use this system for like 2-3 more years and spend the money i save elsewhere you know.

Issue is that the fx8320 is already not doing 60fps in cpu intensive titles as tested by a good amount of people and the ac games are one of those borderline 60fps with often dips. You could try with a new gpu as well you can just reuse that in a new system if the performance is not up to your liking.

Your cpu is well past it's prime and you want to use it for another 2-3 years even you can build a brand new system?

Main PC CPU: 7700K, MOBO: Asus Strix, GPU: Aorus Extreme 3080, PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750, RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Storage: 970 Evo 1tb

Lounge PC CPU: 4790K MOBO: Asus Hero VII GPU: EVGA 3060 Ti PSU: Corsair RM650 RAM: Kingston HyperX 16gb Storage: 970 Evo 1TB

Well as long as it doesn't bottleneck my new GPU on intensive titles i don't see the problem with the outdated cpu. But since Jaslion mentioned that it can't do 60 fps anymore i guess the only way is to do a whole upgrade.
