So yesterday i was having a problem with windows defender not letting me disable itself as there wasnt an option and after some RegistryEdits i managed to get the option to pop up again however...

 

IT NOW SAY "THIS SETTING IS MANAGED BY THE ADMINISTRATOR"...heres the kicker, I AM THE ADMIN AND I AM THE ONLY USER...any help? i have tried near enough everything but reinstalling windows as i dont want to...

You are administrator and you disabled Defender in registry.

Everything is fine then.

Some settings in registry are more powerful than settings in control panel, so Windows knows that Defender was disabled by more powerful administrator settings and that is why you cannot enable it by control panel.

Re-enable it in registry.

Okay but i changed the setting because It wasnt there previouslt and now it is??

You changed that setting in registry, so now it's set different than system wants. But registry is the king here.

 

BTW. If you add some key to registry, you must remove it. Any changes like "disableantispyware set to zero" gives you nothing. It still will be entry in registry (enabled or disabled) so controlling Defender is now possible by registry edit unless you remove that entry from registry.

 

There is no real problem how do you control your computer - by registry entries, gpedit, control panel - as long as you control it of course and remember where you must change settings. Use notepad and always make notes if you change something.

Okay let me start from the beggining

This is what my windows defender looked like yesterday and today i wanted to turn it off to re try what it was i wanted to do.

 

So i went to the reg editor

So when i went there i changed these 3....

 

When i did this i was allowed access to my virus protection tab (COOL I MADE PROGRESS)

But these appear, I want to be able to just use windows defender to turn it on and off but i cant no matter what i do

As I said - if you added that keys, you must remove them, not just change values. Changing values are still kind of control using registry editor, so control panel do not override these settings.

 

And really - don't worry. It doesn't matter how do you control Defender settings. Using registry keys gives you the same protection like using control panel. It's just not that nice (or it is, depends how do you like it).

so if i delete them and restart my pc will it most likely go back to what is was originally

I think essentially yes, if you delete the keys you created your are essentially restoring your PC registry to what is was before you edited it and added the keys. Also instead of editing registry you could have just used the Local Group Policy Editor. It would have been far easier.

See i didnt add these keys, these keys where already there i just changed the data from 0 to 1 and i didnt know this exsisted so thank you

I understand the acting part but i dont want to delete things from my registry haha I have deadlines still lmao but so far this has seemed to have 'fixed' what i wanted to do, so i will continue doing it this way :))))

 

EDIT: Yeah the keys where there when i opened the registry editor but the data was different i changed the data within in them from 0 which is NO to 1 which is YES apperently

A while back i added my university email to my computer so i could access the emails using windows built in email and one drive as it wanted me to add it as a 'user' however unbeknowing to me my university takes control of your computers windows defender and several other things basically ripping them out of your control and into theirs?? Hello? anyone else this this is sketchy?

Not really sketchy to be honest, it is kind of normal. You know what is weirder? If I log in on my phone on the outlook app with my school email, to continue to my emails i need to activate Outlook as device administrator which shows me that it can set password rules, monitor screen-unlock attemps, lock the screen and set storage encryption like wtf?

Nah dude thats f**ked but like i found out my uni had control of more then just defender they had control of what windows called 'system' so from my understanding they could see all the p*rn i was watching
