No longer able to boot Windows 10 Pro after changing to SATA USB SCSI adapter

scheduleX

I am trying to make my boot drive which is a SATA SSD to use USB via a SATA USB adapter as I am running out of SATA ports for other storage drives.

Now, Windows 10 Pro refuses to boot into login screen, it keeps rebooting at load screen and go into recovery mode. Only safe mode works now.

Is this set up even possible for Windows 10 Pro? Will reintalling Windows work? I read somewhere Windows will not boot from a movable drive, is SATA SSD over USB SCSI considered removable?

Update:

Re-installing Windows works.

Even if you could you shouldn't, move any of the other drives to USB, not the boot one...

And yes anything USB is removeable.

First of all - Windows loads drivers for USB while boot. So you cannot boot unless USB drivers are loaded. So - vicious circle.

Use USB for non system drive.

Thanks all the replies. However it managed to boot after a full Windows reinstall. I think there maybe some magic to SCSI adapter support.

You still lose performance that is more important to have for the OS drive than for anything else.
