where is the bottleneck?

high settings and some low gets me 40fps in gtav. i see people with the same gpu, and similar proessor get between 40minimum, and 130 max. i assume i must have an insane bottleneck. what is it?  

 

cpu: 8086k 4.0-4.3ghz

gpu: p106-100 6gb adaptive clock/untouched nvida control pannel mode.418 driver

psu: 750watt gold corsair

ram: 2133 16gb corsair ddr4

storage: corsair 120gb nvme m.2 for os + 1tb 860 evo ssd for all else yes the m.2 has a heatsink 

mobo: 390 asrock board

screen: 1080p 60htz tv

 

with that in mind, where is the bottleneck? vsync is off. 

 

oh and heres what i meant by i am on the severely low fps end.

using dx10 mode for the game. is that relivent? gta has no x12 mode only 11, 10, and 10.1 also would wine be faster than proton 4.11?

i know my card can run dx12 cause dx12 saints row works fine.

You don't play games in Linux. Period. 

 

That's what Windows is for. 

 

Install Windows 10, do the gp106 hacks (Linus actually has a video on this), and you'll have awesome FPS.

no matter what no gpu is worse. have you tried the game? what dx versions is better for it? 11, 10.1 or 10? it could be something as simple as that.

There's a hack to make it work. 

It's a pain but will work. Either that or buy a real GPU and install Windows. 

 

 

Again, Linux sucks for gaming. Horrible. Terrible. Does not work. Don't do it! A 2080ti and Ryzen 9 3950x would suck at gaming in Linux.

gta requires a higher driver than the driver the hack works on. bl3 would only be my reason to duelboot, also gtav is the only game so far that does really bad frames.

I agree on the GPU... Try a driver reinstall, but its possibly the hacky drivers you used to get the thing operational. I did come across a couple things about various ways to play games on Linux causing some issues, but also that those things were patched a while ago (DXVX? Something like that, I apologize I am not that up on my Linux stuff)

 

Your CPU is plenty powerful, you're running an SSD, slightly low ram speed sure but that shouldn't make a massive difference here, that leaves the GPU and my suspicion is its a side effect from the fact its a mining card that requires modded drivers and such to work

 

Are you running vsync? Is your refresh rate set correctly in Linux? Anyway to test the game on the same system running windows?

 

Also Userbenchmark isnt a great place to go for benchmarks. A quick look at Guru3d/Anandtech confirms the rough numbers you SHOULD be seeing, and you should easily be running the game at all Very High with at least 70 average..

No it requires a higher driver for optimal Performance. An older driver will still work better than Linux. 

 

Linux is horrible. There's no way to play GTA V or 90 percent of games on Linux and have it run well. End of story. 

 

If you want a plug and play system buy a real GPU. If you don't, that Windows driver have will work better than Linux but worse than having a real GPU.

wait what? you realise the "in game benchmark is insanely wrong right? when i ran it got 60 fps, but the actual game ram 40.

CSGO is optimized for Linux and Minecraft is a game loved by Linux users that is gonna be optimized as best as they can. 

 

Again, you need to dual boot Windows. If you don't want to do that then deal with 40fps or buy a $1000 PC to do what a $600 PC running Windows does better.
