It is. You may be able to optimize Linux farther but it's a waste of time.

Perfectly optimized Linux is slower than unoptimized Windows. Just how it works.

you saw the video. 40 fps is not 60 accounting for a 1060 drop from 1080, 90 fps would be 60 for 1060. so why is mine so bad?

or minimum 50 fps.

There are just so many non-standard moving parts in this setup that it's pretty much impossible to know. Some interaction between the game, driver, wine, dx version, the card,...

You'll just have to try a lot of stuff.

wait what? you realise the "in game benchmark is insanely wrong right? when i ran it got 60 fps, but the actual game ram 40.

Thats still insanely low..

Look Linux is great, but gaming on it CAN be a hassle. The issues are down to the hacked up card you're using and the fact you're running Linux. Period. That video up there shows a pretty huge difference between Windows and the best Linux option, Low of 56fps and avg of 131 fps versus a low of 83 and an average of 165. Granted this is on a 1080 Ti which is way more powerful, but its going to be way more pronounced on a lower end card like a 1060.. You're talking an almost 50% performance difference... This matches up with Win 10 benchmarks of GTAV versus what you're getting right now

Your bottleneck is partially Linux, Your options are either to upgrade the GPU to something beefier to get the performance youd get if you went with just putting Windows and dual booting, or you dual boot windows for some games.

Yes. Some games on Linux are well optimized on Linux. they're the exception, Not the rule. Yes things have gotten better.

*edit* single channel memory isnt helping either, I missed that

DX11. It supports 10 and 11 but you're better off with 11.

But while that's valid on Windows with a "real" GPU it doesn't mean that's the one that will run best in your strange setup... so you'll have to try yourself.

just foundout my ram is actually 3000mhz rated on box. didnt know that. kinda wonder why the board made it 2133 now, but since i fear the oc due to it shortening pc life along side instability oh well. lol all this time i thought was 2400. ive been remembering wrong.

Seen videos on this card? One google of this and the first 3 videos tell you that it's a waste of money. The BIOS is dedicated to mining efficiency, it doesn't have a regular 1060 bios. It also doesn't have DX12 support. And no PCIE 3.0 support.

I have this card and it works fine just as an 1060

sorry lemme explain. i run saints row with dxgl(wine dx) 12, and gtav i have on steam, so i can use dxvk 11/10/10.1 on it. gta itself doesnt offer dx12 so that is why i say this.

the no dx12 is windows applicable thing, not lin cause the driver restrictions are not here.

@NZgamer so i guess recommend a dxvk version proton 4.11.2 or similar not on pc right now. i assume you are a linux gamer so can recommend something.

i have saints ropw through gog, so thats why its wine only. steam doesnt exactly do the photon cfg command, and winetricks was a bad expirence so i edit libs.

lutris? tried on older system just left me confused.i have crossover on this system. i didnt know how to do the trial for crossover without buying it, so i ended up with a year of crossover. bl3 is a brick on linux. badly bricked. the game wont even get to a logo or a crash on steam. the "fixes on proton db are bricks for me, so i tried wine and got crossover only game unplayable for me so far.

by unplayable, i mean eill not even start/get to a title screen. gta least is low settings playable. i havent tested yet cause i do not have the tools today to put in the m.2... the screws are too small.
