This is my first time building a PC and have a tiny bit of knowledge as to what I am doing. I would like to keep this build at around $900 - $1 000 (US). I plan on using it mostly for gaming (FPS games like COD/Destiny 2) and some light video editing, and would like to upgrade it down the line when games become more power hungry. I currently only plan on using one monitor (1080p 144Hz) but may upgrade to two in the future. These are the parts I am currently thinking about:

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 3700X Matisse 3.6GHz 8-Core AM4 Boxed Processor with Wraith Prism Cooler

Graphics Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Ventus XS Overclocked Dual-Fan 6GB GDDR6 PCIe 3.0 Video Card

Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming plus max AMD ATx AM4

SSD: nland Premium - 512GB SSD 3D NAND M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive

Ram: G.Skill - Ripjaws V 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 PC4-25600 CL16 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit F4-3200C16D-16GVKB - Black

Power Supply: Corsair - CX550M 550 Watt 80 Plus Bronze ATX Semi-Modular Power Supply

Case: N/A

First off, will this set up even work? Secondly, if anyone has any other recommendations please let me know. Lastly, I need some case recommendations. I have no idea how to pick a case as I haven’t done enough research into them. I would also prefer the case to be white to match my peripherals, but it’s not a deal breaker.

Thanks so much for the help!

looks good and it works, but it's a bit cpu heavy for a gaming system. i'd go for a 3600 + 2060 super instead. the rest of the components are well picked. the psu isn't great, that's the only thing.

for a case, a cheap decent one that comes in white is the fractal design focus G

that power supply is gonna crash and fail spectacularly, check the psu tier list for a better alternative.

I am going to be totally honest, I have no clue what you're talking about when you say 3600 + 2060 super (still learning computer terms). Also, I originally planned to use a Ryzen 5 but I recieved some advice saying that if I wanted to upgrade the computer later on then I should go with the Ryzen 7 so I wouldn't have to buy a new CPU in the future. Thoughts?

See his build above.

The Ryzen 5 3600 is plenty CPU for gaming and light editing for years to come.

For gaming the Ryzen 5 3600 is fine, if you need more cores and threads for cpu heavy applications people go with the Ryzen 7. Since your gaming and don’t need the extra cpu power, @boggy77 added a rtx 2060 instead for better fps. Also I would go with his build.

For simple gaming the R5 3600 is enough. Better off getting a better GPU.

-3600MHz CL16 RAM for fast speeds

-1TB SSD, good value,

-5700XT with decent cooler

-Quality 500W PSU

Notes:

I put in the H510 because it's white and it's popular. I've worked in two myself, it's easy to build in and has great cable management. Choose what case you like, but make sure it's decent thermally. You may want to put in some nice case fans in the front if you have the budget.

the cxm isn't that bad, it's tier B

that's a different corsair cxm psu you're referring to, the 600w is C tier and from personal experience can confirm that corsair can't make a quality 550w psu to save their lives
