Which processor is better

I have a choice between an i5 2500k and i7 2600

 

Is it better to have faster cores or slower cores and more threads

 

I will be overclocking the i5

What will you do with this system? Is this an upgrade to something you already have?

i'd go i7. Is there any possiblity of getting the 2600k? It shouldn't be that expensive anymore.

The 2600 is easily a LOT better in 2020 - 4 cores/ 4 threads is not enough for modern games. Hell, even 4 cores with 8 threads are seeing the limit in some games.

How much are you paying for each? 

 

Both are equally bad options, but depending on your situation/spending budget we might be able to come up with something better. 

 

 

Strictly speaking, this question depends how much of an overclock you get out of a 2500k. A 2500k at 5ghz will be better than a 2600 stock. Though if you only can get a mild overclock then the 2600 will be better because of the extra threads. Again, both aren't good options in 2020 for these reasons.
