So I currently use 3 monitors and I just acquired 3 more from my brother who moved out and got some more from his work. I have a 1080ti with 5 graphics ports. How performance impacting would it be to use on-board graphics for one of the 6?

CPU: I5 8600k OC:4.8GHz

GPU: 1080ti

MOBO: Asus Z-370E

In most cases once you have a dedicated gpu installed your cmos/bios will auto-disable the graphics port on the mobo. This can be overridden but as @5x5 mentioned it can have ... weird outcomes. It is not suggested to override the setting unless you have experience or in most cases you are trying to troubleshoot an issue.

Your 1080ti may have 5 ports but can only output to 4 at a time.

If you can keep the iGPU enabled together with the discrete one in your BIOS then yes that can work, you might just need to disconnect the monitors connected to it when playing certain games.

Monitoring department (pun intended) likes to have many graphs, logs, numbers, red flags etc visible at once.

I personally haven't had any major issues with running two displays, one from dGPU and other from iGPU, for years now, both Linux (Ubuntu & Manjaro) and Windows. Don't know what happens in larger numbers though.

Have you considered using a display card instead of a gpu?

Such as this one:

 A6945752.jpg

It is a VisionTek Radeon 7750 2GB GDDR5 6 4k Monitor 6 Mini DisplayPorts, AMD Eyefinity 2.0, PCI Express 3.0 Video Card ~ $250USD

I have used these in the past for 6 monitor display setups. They work much better. One system I had used two of these cards, it was for a dispatch center.
