Hi,

Today I was going to replace my motherboard, cpu and RAM. When removing the GPU, I forgot about the safety lock, and started pulling it out without first unlocking it. Now most of the GPU is out of the PCIE slot except the end where the lock is. I've been a little too violent I think because the end where the lock is of the PCIE slot has been lifted a bit off of the motherboard. I suppose the motherboard is as good as dead now, but I still hope to save the GPU. I'm unable to push the GPU entirely back into the PCIE slot to undo the lock too. What can I do?

Push the GPU back into the slot, then try removing it properly.  It should come free of the slot then and you'll be able to get a better look at the motherboard after that.

You still have to unlock the video card from the slot.

Unlock the mechanism ... most motherboards use one where you have to grab that plastic bit and bend it / push it to one side (usually it has to go towards the cpu socket) to release the video card... fewer boards you have to press down on that plastic bit.

Once the card is out, you can probably simply gently press down on the plastic housing and it should sit down on the circuit board without any issues.

Good luck.

I've tried that, but due to the PCIE slot being slighty liften (and removed) on one side i'm unable to do that.

Break the locking tab, and then remove the GPU.

The locking tab isn't necessary at all, for anything.  Like the locking tabs for RAM, they help but aren't 100% required.    Had broken tabs for years, no problem.

I'm more concerned you lifted the PCIe slot.
