Typically the optical fiber terminates to an ONT. This will then act as a media converter which will convert it to RJ-45 Ethernet which you can connect to any Router you like.

I take it the ONT/Router you have was supplied by your ISP? You should be able to acquire a standalone ONT from your ISP or a 3rd party one that your ISP supports. From there you can connect any router you like.

I can't tell you what ONT's your ISP supports. This is typically found on their website if you want to use your own. Alternatively they may allow you to rent one of theirs.

PON is a special kind of fiber optic and often requires proprietary ONT's. However most of those ONT's do have a bridge mode which would turn off everything except the ethernet ports and allow you to plug in a router of your choosing. This however is a policy decision and may vary from carrier to carrier. I don't know of many carriers that will allow you to buy your own ONT, especially on PON.
