Both are just as important but if I was going to major in one then I'd go with Physics, it is so beautiful

Are you talking a levels? I just chose mine, went for both chemistry and physics. I'm thinking of engineering/computer science/ something in this broad section of careers meaning they biology is no use. What do you wanna do in later life? This should be what your decision hinges on, along with what you enjoy

EDIT: I see now, I'm from the uk so we don't use the term major, as in a subject at uni... Although what I said in my previous post still applies, go with what you enjoy and what will best fit in with your aspirations for later life...

Hmm, I have misgivings about sub-categories of both, but if I were to choose, I'd choose physics.

Wait til you get to the chemistry part of Biology where you have to deal with Carbon. Just you wait.

It's really a personal choice.

I personally at a-level (16-18), I took Chem/Phys, as Bio was my least favorite of the three sciences, but all are very interesting and well respected.

Take whichever interests you the most and you'd most like to work in/around that field. I did Physics, not because I wanted to do that later in life, but because its the most maths based, and would be helpful for Maths/Computer Science.

If you're here then I'd imagine you're interested in computers. Physics is pretty maths based so 'tis the way to go. And it's cooler to say you have a major in physics.

It is cooler, and more respected, but I wonder what kind of degree is more marketable.  Some modern physics is a total dead end.  Particle physics in particular, the amounts of money needed to "complete" the standard model is pretty high, and after big discoveries like finding the higgs, there is kind of a sense of... what now?

The most exciting thing to come out of physics/astronomy is awhile is dark matter/energy, and frankly, we don't know what the f*ck that is, or whether it is actually real (vs scientists just making sh*t up to explain the hole in their understanding).

Maybe I am just more interested in practical things, I am less interested in the minutia of particle physics and exactly why and how things came to be, than data from the dead kepler telescope that gave clues to planets with potential life (it was like a spotter for future probes to get REAL data).  But where is the faster than light travel?  We are still stuck in a cosmic island with no clear pathways to inter solar travel that humans can live through.

At least with biology and chemistry and the catch all "materials science" you get the sense that there is a vast new world waiting to be explored that can yield fantastic results IN OUR LIFETIMES !!!!!  Many of the problems are much lower handing fruit than something like ftl travel, if that's even POSSIBLE.

The more I think about the future of physics, the more depressed I become.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...
